Students in all year groups have now been given some personalised information about the ‘Accelerated Reader’ program to take home to parents. This includes your child’s most current Star Reading Report, which details their current reading age based on one Star Reading Test they completed recently. It is anticipated that this reading age will increase significantly if students engage fully in the program. Alongside this, the report includes their ZPD, which indicates the coloured reading level that your child should be on. I have also enclosed a personalised parental login which will allow you to access information about your child’s engagement and progress with the program.
As outlined in the accompanying letter sent home, Accelerated Reader is a proven and sharply focused reading program which aims to build students’ reading enjoyment, resilience and accelerates reading progress. With this in mind, every student will be given time during the school day to read their books and we do also expect that students are reading for around two hours per week during extended study to maximise the program’s potential.
