This week Crew Earhart are focusing on the importance of HOWLs. In the community meeting on Friday the students were given their crew average for HOWLs. Currently crew Earhart’s average is:

Work Hard = 3.35

Get Smart = 3.35

Be Kind = 3.46

Although we appear to be achieving well in our HOWLs, there are some students who are not quite achieving the minimum expectation and need crew to help support and challenge them.

Therefore as a crew we will be analysing our own and our peers current attainment in HOWLs and making a conscious effort to help each other to improve. Students will be expected to make academic pledges to ensure they are actively working on this and encouraged to speak to teachers to gain clarity on the grade they were given.

A great first session readdressing the purpose of what it means to work hard, get smart and be kind. I am looking forward to the discussion in crew over the next few days.

X23 Bio Shock – Artwork

X23 have been developing their stippling technique in Art and have produced some stunning studies of insects. They have created a range of tone and have looked closely at their chosen image (this work supports their expedition ‘Bio-Shock).

By the end of this week X23 should have their studies completed and I can’t wait to see the outcome.

X23 Injections

X23 (Year 9) students were today given letters each explaining the injections they are due very soon.  Please could parents/carers look over the letter and sign the consent form to say whether or not you would like your son/daughter to have the injections.  Students know the forms are to be handed into the school office as soon as possible, preferably by the end of this week. Thank you in advance for the speedy response.

X23 Bioshock Fieldwork

For the next five weeks, both Skipper and Admiral will be going on Fieldwork. This will not effect start or finish times for the day, neither will students require a packed lunch. Students need to be aware of the dates so that they can come to school prepared for being in the outdoors (i.e. clothed appropriate for the weather, sensible shoes and have a bottle for water etc…)

The dates are as follows:

Skipper

Monday 29th April

Tuesday 7th May

Monday 13th May

Tuesday 4th June

Monday 10th June

Admiral

Tuesday 30th April

Wednesday 8th May

Tuesday 14th May

Monday 3rd June

Tuesday 11th June

Please do not hesitate to contact myself or Mr Voltaire if you require any further information.

X23 Extended Study

X23 Admiral and Skipper have an upcoming assessment for the learning target: I can relate the position of an element on the periodic table to its atomic structure.

Students should watch the video posted on Google Classroom and attempt the practice questions in the exercise books.

Admiral Assessment Monday 28th

Skipper Assessment Tuesday 29th.

Thanks

Mr Voltaire

X23 Fieldwork to Sheffield Hallam University 5th December

There is a fieldwork visit going to Sheffield Hallam University on the 5th December. Students will be working with SHU students who in-turn are working with the South Yorkshire Police to provide workshops to help students understand elements of criminology.

Students will require a packed lunch and will be expected to arrive at school for 8 am that day so that we can leave school at 08:15. We will return to school for 15:30.

Thank you

Mrs Goddard
