X24 Fieldwork 2nd and 3rd April

X24 students will be out on fieldwork for two days next week.

On Tuesday 2nd April we will be travelling to Sheffield as part of the immersion for our new STEAM expedition.  The fieldwork will take place during the day so students should arrive at school at the normal time.  Lunch will be provided.

On Wednesday 3rd April we will be on Humanities fieldwork but will need to leave school at 8am and will arrive back at 4.15pm  Students will need to bring a packed lunch and should have coats and sensible shoes for walking outside as there will be a 10 minute walk from the coach stop to our destination.

MANTRA visits XP

We’ve been really lucky this week to have the MANufacturing TRAnsport visiting from the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Sheffield.  On Monday and Tuesday this week, students from XP and XP East have been able to experience something of the future of manufacturing and engineering on this fantastic lorry!  We’ve handled objects, used AR to investigate an engine and tried out virtual MIG welding.  Congratulations to Kelsea who was the champion welder with an impressive 91% score for the quality of her weld!

We’re looking forward to working again with the team from the AMRC and would like to appreciate them for their hard work in setting everything up and working with our students.

X24 Walking back in time!

Today in STEAM sessions, X24 created a timeline of life on Earth.  With every step taking us back 10 million years – our students planted flags to show when major species evolved.  We did this to try to understand the absolutely huge length of time that our planet has been around, and how long it took for life to evolve.

After walking the entire length of the XP site we had gone back just over 3 billion years.  Another 150 metres would have taken us right back to the formation of the planet – 4.54 billion years ago.

At this scale, the whole of human civilisation would fit into half a centimetre!

Great work by X24, even in the freezing cold.

C23 Presentation of Learning

The Year 8 Presentation of Learning will take place on Tuesday 8th May for Skipper and Wednesday 9th May for students in Admiral.  The evening will be held at The Point in Doncaster at 5.30pm. We have chosen The Point as it provides students the opportunity to perform their poetry to an authentic audience and in the home of Doncaster Community Arts.  Students will need to be collected from the venue not from School at 6.30pm. Students are looking forward to sharing their hard work with you.

If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact School.

During the first week back C23 students will be going on fieldwork to the East Yorkshire Coast to investigate the impact of nature on the land. On Wednesday the 14th March Admiral will be going followed by Skipper on Friday 16th March. Students will spend time on the beach at both locations.

We will be leaving at 8.45am and will return to school between 3.30pm and 4pm depending on the traffic. Students will be out of school all day and as a result will need a packed lunch and warm clothing – we would recommend that students have at least 3 layers- as well as a waterproof coat. Students who receive free school meals will be provided with a packed lunch.
