As they are coming to the end of Year 9, crew has been reflecting on their year. When thinking about their journey throughout the year, here are some of their highlights.
They have been looking at their HoWLs and AP grades from the last data drop. They have then made pledges each week to focus on small changes they can make to try and improve. Crew holds each other to account during this process, discussing whether they think they have been successful in achieving their pledges.
They have finished their second expedition of the year called ‘Every Picture Tells a Story’ by creating beautiful work. They looked at Islamic tiles and then used rotational symmetry to design their own patterns to paint with acrylic paint.

Crew also chose their options for ‘Leading Our Own Learning’ that they will be studying next year. The crew has picked a range of options such as Engineering, Citizenship, Psychology, Further maths, ICT / Computing as well as some members of the crew decided to take up the opportunity to join the ‘pushing for 4’ group that will support them with Maths, English, and Science leading up to their exams.
They cant really believe that they are coming to the end of Year 9 and going into Year 10!
On Friday Crew Piper took a stroll to Lakeside for an afternoon treat. The sun was shining which meant everyone was smiling. Crew enjoyed an ice cream from McDonalds and a game of table tennis. It was a fab afternoon.
This morning, Crew Stan Lee have been doing some excellent work on their Crew pledges.
Crew pledges are a promise you make to perform an action such as getting to Crew on time or pledging to help other students. The rest of Crew hold these pledges to account and challenge Crewmates who do not follow the pledges they make and ensure they follow them to the best of their ability. Students who follow their pledges are often noticed and praised by their peers as well as their Crew Leader.

Our year 10s and Post 16 students had an enlightening experience of careers and post 16 opportunities available in Doncaster this week. Wonderful to see our students engaging with local businesses and providers and beautiful representing both schools
As part of National Careers Week, Year 10 and XP16 have a fantastic opportunity on Thursday 10th March to attend Doncaster Racecourse, who are hosting a Careers Fair with stalls from a variety of industries and Post 16 education providers and universities. The students will be leaving school for the afternoon and will be back in time for the end of the day. This will introduce them to the opportunities available in Doncaster as they prepare for their GCSEs next year and their next steps in their academic journey.
Students in C26/Year 9 will be visiting the Thackray Museum of Medicine in March.
We are venturing out on 2 separate days as part of their current expedition ‘You Give Me Fever’.

The primary purpose of the visit is to explore the galleries which will help students get to grips with the science behind disease, and the state of public health when Victoria was on the throne. This opportunity to travel back through time and meet key figures in the fight against disease will support the learning on how its history can help us inform the very current issues we face today.
Oh wait there is more… Alongside this amazing experience, we are also booked on a workshop that looks at the following – Does history always move in a straight line? Is innovation always straightforward? This engaging talk uses events and changes throughout medical history to consider the past, present and future of medicine.
We will be departing at around 9:00 AM and returning at approximately 15:00 PM.
Students will need to bring a packed lunch unless they access free school meals, in which case school will provide one for them.
Students will need to dress appropriately and in line with the school dress code. As we will be walking around the museum, comfortable footwear is required.
Usual school rules will apply in terms of mobile phones and these should not be used by students on the bus. Students may wish to take devices such as iPads to take any photographs or to make notes.
If your child needs to take any medication, please inform their Crew Leader so that any necessary arrangements can be made.
All medication should be labelled with their name and passed to a member of staff.

Bit of History!
The museum building has a long and chequered history.
It first opened in 1861 as the purpose-built Leeds Union Workhouse, a harsh and unwelcoming home for poor and homeless people with nowhere else to go. Over the years, new buildings were gradually added to the workhouse complex, including a separate infirmary.
Yesterday, we launched our Learn2Earn Revision Rewards scheme to Y11 as a way of recognising the hard work and commitment of those students who are attending our lunchtime and after-school GCSE revision sessions (and perhaps encourage some of our other students to attend, too!)
So, what is Learn2Earn?
A rewards ‘loyalty’ scheme for revision – the more sessions students attend, the more points they earn!
After 5 sessions, students receive a small ‘reward’…
After 10 sessions, students receive a medium ‘reward’…
All completed cards will be entered into a ‘big CREW reward’ prize draw – so the more crew participate in sessions, the more chance their crew have of winning the ‘bigger prize’ at the end of Y11!

Don’t forget that Y11 – and Y10 – students can also attend D6 on a Saturday morning, from 9am – 12:30pm, which is back up and running this weekend (15th January). D6 provides students with a relaxed and informal study space working alongside our expert Student Coaches. We are expecting these to get busier as GCSEs get closer (16th May – 24th June.)
We look forward to seeing lots of students there!!!
Due to the fantastic efforts of our incredible staff, we are delighted to be able to offer so many extra curricular opportunities to our wonderful students!
Please see attached an updated version of our enrichment timetable. On here, you’ll find sports clubs/fixtures, Arts clubs (including our new Vocaleles!) and KS4 Revision sessions with staff. We would encourage our students to attend as many of these sessions as possible to secure their GCSE grades and achieve their potential!
I can also share with you that D6 will begin again this coming Saturday, November 13th. D6 is our Saturday provision where students are able to come and work with coaches in school from 9am – 12:30pm. For the time being, D6 is open to year 11 only.
