X24 Superbug! STEAM POL 9th December

Students from both Admiral and Skipper will be presenting this terms learning to parents on 9th December. This will consist of two parts that link the final question of “Why should world poverty matter to us in Doncaster?”, We hope to see all X24 parents here to support such an awesome cause.

As an adjustment to the above, X24 Admiral will be presenting at XP East and X24 Skipper will be presenting at XP

X24 Beautiful work

So far this term, X24 have collected data from countries around the world, considered if they are comparable with each other and if not how they could change the format, discussed what type of data it is, starting to consider what type of sampling method would be best for this type of data and are now learning about the different averages we could use to analyse the data. Overall it has been a successful start to Year 9. Keep it up!

There are some examples of their beautiful work below:

The Big Reveal

With a few hints, clues and a quick game of hangman, X24 students successfully identified all the components of the new expedition.

Over the next six weeks we will be studying the expedition entitled Life through a Lens and attempting to answer the question “How can the Arts help to uncover the past?”

X24 Immersion continues…

In todays Humanities sessions X24 students were given an extract of their expedition Anchor Text to perform.  As the expedition is yet to be revealed the students had no prior knowledge or understanding of the storyline or characters within the novel. This meant that the students had to grapple with the text and perform their own interpretation of what they had read.

Following such an impressive performance of Romeo and Juliet at the last Presentation of Learning, expectations were high. X24 certainly lived up to such expectations by bringing the extract to life in such a believable way. The medium of drama allowed the class to analyse the two main characters and begin to form an understanding of them before we explore the text in further detail. All students were engaged in these sessions however a few stand out students were Vinnie, Archie, Sam and Joe for their sheer enthusiasm and use of characterisation skills. Excellent work boys, keep it up!

In the afternoon the students looked at iconic photographs taken across different time periods and analysed their importance. Again another session where students worked incredibly hard, especially Skipper!

So that’s the three days of Immersion. It is now time for the students to make connections  between the tasks we have done and make considered predictions about our new expedition.

I wonder which student will be successful in guessing our guiding question as we reveal all tomorrow …

X24 Immersion Day 1

A new term and a new expedition for students in X24. As with all expeditions at XP we start this process with an immersion which allows students to grapple and make considered predictions about the content of the expedition.

The first immersive task given to the students today was to take the opening of their Anchor Text, which is currently unknown to them and use the writers description to paint the setting.

The students were so focused and as a result produced beautiful work that will be placed in the front of their new exercise book.

X24 Xblock – Clay hearts

What a fantastic morning…today X1 and X2 constructed hearts out of clay. This is before the challenge of making their chosen organs out of clay…but a little bit bigger. I wanted to give them the experience of moulding, manipulating and adding extra pieces of clay such as the aorta and the pulmonary veins. Excited for them to start their product next week.
