Crew Tomlinson Bike-a-thon

Crew Tomlinson are really excited to be completing their first charity fundraiser next Monday. We have set ourselves a massive challenge of trying to bike coast to coast in a day (on an exercise bike!) We particularly wanted to complete a physical activity due to our crew taken our name from Jane Tomlinson. We are wanting to raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice to help them carry on helping so many families. The just giving page is linked below if anyone can sponsor anything it would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks so much for the people who have already donated. We will update you with how we do!

Crew Tomlinson on Time

Over the last few weeks crew have recently worked really hard on making sure they are at school on time in a morning. We have understood the importance of making sure we are on time and the impacts it can have if not on time. A particular well done to Danny and Mollie whose punctuality has massively improved.

Crew have also looked recently looked through praises over the last few weeks with some members of crew having a fantastic number of praises from sessions some examples of praise is for students reading a part in Macbeth, producing beautiful work in Art and fantastic effort in Spanish.

It’s great to see the hard work of crew! Keep it up everyone.

XP laying down the law!

What a fantastic two days students across XP and XP East have had!

On Tuesday, Citizenship students, who have been studying the role of the police, and their year group were involved in 3 seminars from Doncaster Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. These included Road Safety, Gun and Knives and Exploitation.

After a fantastic Tuesday, things only got more exciting here at XP today…
Students listened to a talk regarding Dog Handling and were introduced to not one, but two real life police dogs! Isn’t Hudson wonderful?
If that wasn’t enough, students were given time to ask all their pressing questions in a Q&A session. Students also experienced all the equipment police officers are trained to use, including riot gear and operating police cars.
A fantastic two days had by all students and staff! #WeAreCrew

Crew Stan Lee Pledges

This morning, Crew Stan Lee have been doing some excellent work on their Crew pledges.

Crew pledges are a promise you make to perform an action such as getting to Crew on time or pledging to help other students. The rest of Crew hold these pledges to account and challenge Crewmates who do not follow the pledges they make and ensure they follow them to the best of their ability. Students who follow their pledges are often noticed and praised by their peers as well as their Crew Leader.

This crew blog has been written by James one of our crew members.
Well done James.

Not running this week

D6 is paused for this weekend as we have staff days on Friday and Monday. Most year 11 students are in school for the staff days so it would be unfair to ask them to also attend school on a Saturday.

D6 will be running as normal next week, Saturday 19th March and moving forward for both year 11 & year 10. With only a few weeks left before GCSEs start please encourage your student to attend. Just 6 sessions can make a huge difference to outcomes for students committed to improving their grades.

Careers Fair

https://www.doncaster-chamber.co.uk/opportunities-doncaster/doncaster-careers-week/opportunities-doncaster-live-exhibitors2022/

As part of National Careers Week, Year 10 and XP16 have a fantastic opportunity on Thursday 10th March to attend Doncaster Racecourse, who are hosting a Careers Fair with stalls from a variety of industries and Post 16 education providers and universities. The students will be leaving school for the afternoon and will be back in time for the end of the day. This will introduce them to the opportunities available in Doncaster as they prepare for their GCSEs next year and their next steps in their academic journey.

Careers Website

Please click on the link to check out all that is Careers at XP

My name is Kathryn Burns and I am Careers Lead at both schools. Please click on the link to check out all that is Careers at XP. The people most students take advice from are parents / grandparents and carers so it’s important that you know how best to support them in making their choices in their next steps on their academic journey. Please have a look and let me know if there’s anything missing or anything is difficult to navigate. Email [email protected]

To help your student to achieve the grades they deserve encourage them to attend D6 on Saturdays, 9am – 12.30pm. There are 11 more available Saturdays left of D6 this year, that’s 38.5 extra hours of quality revision supported by coaches who have been through the GCSE stage at XP, are experts at revision, study planning, answering exam questions. At the moment D6 is open to all our year 10’s and year 11’s.

XP/East revision website

Year 11 Crew Leaders, Phase Leads, Teachers and Learning Coaches have put together a website to support your student whether in year 11 or year 10 by creating an enormous resource bank with a range of different techniques to revise. Please encourage them to access these resources in the run up to summer exams.

D6: business as usual

C24 can breath a huge sigh of relief as the 2nd set of Y11 mocks are almost over (Just a few to mop up)

However, it’s really important that students keep the momentum going with their revision all through the year, and not just before the real deal which starts next month with Spanish speaking.

Click here to view our current enrichment timetable, which includes details of all the all the lunchtime and after school revision sessions available.

We are also encouraging all Y11s to attend D6 on a Saturday morning from 9am-12.30pm each week to access additional support, or just to have a relaxed space for a bit of focussed self-study away from any potential distractions at home. This is also open to our year 10s as they develop learning routines ready for their GCSE year.

For those of you who don’t know, D6 is our voluntary sixth day of school which takes place each Saturday during term time. D6 is led by ex-students of XP who are returning to provide our current students with peer to peer academic study support. There will be additional support from our school learning coaches and members of the Leadership Team.

We’re really looking forward to seeing our Y11s at D6 this Saturday, there are only 9 available Saturdays between now and the end of their GCSE exams!

(Please note that D6 is only open to Y11 & 10 at the moment).

X25 DofE Fridays-Skill

We hope everyone has had a great half term and ready for the next term. As part of the students Duke of Edinburgh silver award they will be completing an hour towards their skill award on Friday afternoons. At the end of last term students chose which skill they wanted to complete. Students have chosen between sewing, beauty and board games.

We have a couple of board games in school but would be great if you have any at home that we can borrow for students to make the most of this time.

We are really looking forward to the students completing their DofE.

Thanks

X25 crew leaders.
