C24 (Y11) Mock Exam Timetable

Year 11 will be sitting mock exams over a 2 week period, starting on Monday 8th November:

Please note that Wednesday 10th November may be subject to change due to the school nurses being in to administer Covid Vaccines.

Students have been given revision resources to help them prepare for these mocks, as well as having access to Seneca (science), Hegarty (maths) and all their previous session slides on google classrooms.

X24 History, getting started with revision!

Students this week have been given their own copy of the revision guide for our History exam board OCR B SHP History. All students should have named their copy so that if they are misplaced they can be returned. Students are encouraged to annotate and highlight the guide as they carry out their revision.

The revision guide has a number of different topics, however, students will need to focus on the following sections for revision:

  • The Elizabethans
  • The People’s Heath
  • Living under Nazi Rule

The locations of these topics can be found in the contents page. We would recommend in general students start by revising The People’s Health as well as focusing on page 88 in order to prepare for the upcoming assessment in lessons.

If any student has been absent when these revision guides were handed out, they can see myself or Mrs Hannam directly and we will make sure they get their copy.

A further revision guide focusing on the Viking Expansion will be issued to students in the coming weeks.

Students today and tomorrow who hold prescribed medication at school will be handed back their medication.  Students who require medication to be taken at school in the new term 2021/22 will be required to fill in the medication form.

The Google form is required to be filled in and then press send.  This then gives staff consent to administer medication and for it to be kept on school premises.

Please ensure Inhalers, Epi-pens and other prescribed medications are sent into school with the child’s name and expiry date clearly visible.

Students in Year 11 (C24) will be going on a coastal walk to Flamborough on Thursday 2nd September 2021.
All students will be expected to bring the Outdoor Kit listed below;

Appropriate rucksack for walking
Packed lunch
Water bottle – Approx 2 litres.
Waterproof Outer Jacket
Appropriate walking trousers/shorts/leggings.
Walking top/base layer – Made from synthetic, man made material (polyester, nylon etc). This type of material removes sweat away from your skin keeping you cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather.
Appropriate outdoor shoes (trainers, walking shoes or walking boots are compulsory)
Sun hat
Sun cream
Medication – (As required to individual needs).
For further information or questions please email [email protected] or your child’s crew leader.

We are super excited to be taking C24 out on fieldwork on Thursday, 1st July.

We have arranged to take the whole of Y10 to Shrewsbury Prison, to support our final expedition of the year: Karma Police – have we got justice right?

Shrewsbury Prison was decommissioned in 2013 and now provides an “interactive prison experience” for visitors. It was also recently used as the location for BBC’s drama ‘Time’, which gave a harrowing picture of prison life.

We’re not giving too much away about the activities we’ve got planned for students, but we promise not to leave any of them locked in the cells 😉

We are booked in at the prison at 9.30am meaning that we do have to set off between 6.45am-7am at the latest.  If this is a problem for anyone, please let your Crew Leader know as soon as possible.

We will be leaving the prison at approx 1pm, so hope to be back at school between 3.30-4pm, traffic dependant. We will update socials on the day.

Please make sure students wear comfortable clothes and take a jacket as it can become cold in the prison and sensible shoes. Students will also need a packed lunch and sufficient water for the day. Please don’t pack any products containing nuts in packed lunches as we are a nut-free school!  If your child is in receipt of free school meals, a packed lunch will be provided for them.

A Spot of Adventuring…

Lockdown 3.0…

If the challenges of school were not enough then remote learning would make it even harder.  Crew King, like the rest of their peers faced a new year full of challenges.

Globally, everything has stopped. Projects have been delayed, workplaces closed and schools shut down. The world seems to have ground to a halt because of the coronavirus. However, students continue their education through online learning and via video calls with their teachers and on the whole this has been executed very well by X24 and particularly Crew King.

“When life gets tough and you’re faced with defeat, remember somewhere in the world a flower is popping through the concrete.”

Challenging Times

I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate all of my crew and their amazing families for the support and determination that they continue to show during this difficult and challenging time.  I have exchange frequent emails, phone calls and one to ones with students and their families in order to support where I can.  I want my Crew to know that I am here for them. Keep doing what you’re doing.  Keep attending, staying safe, working hard, getting smart and being kind. This is what makes us crew and stand apart from the crowd.

Mental Health Awareness Week

There has never been a time where wellbeing was at the forefront of people’s minds.  With everyone being locked away and attached to their laptops or tablets, it was important this week that we spent some time considering the importance of mental health and wellbeing in general.

In Crew, we have and will continue to, take the time to communicate and support each other. We will continue to focus on the importance of sharing our stories and motivating each other when we feel like it’s just another monotonous day.  This week in order to break the routine we spent an hour on Friday taking time to go outside and observe nature.  It was incredible to receive photographs, which feature in this blog, from Crew members who walked their dog, kicked a football around or simply went out into the garden just to get some fresh air. Please continue to encourage Crew King to enjoy time away from technology and the beauties of nature.  Sometimes we all need to remember that the simple things in life can make use feel so much better.

Green Shoots

So spring is on its way and somehow things are looking up… For now we remain online learning but…we are crew and until our return into school  we will continue to work hard and get smart. Please remember that I am there for all Crew mates and their families.

I would like to praise all of Crew King for their photos and inspiration to write this blog. Thank you for keeping my spirits up.

Until next time… Stay strong and stay safe.

Y10 Christmas Hamper / Food Boxes

Our Y10 Silver DofE students have been unable to undertake their usual charity fundraising activities this year, so they’ve decided to create food hampers for our local food banks.

We’re all very aware of the financial impact the various lockdown/tier 3 restrictions have had on our community, especially on those who have been furloughed or are self employed and unable to work.  So, in addition to the staple non-perishable items (cereals; tinned and packeted foods; tea/coffee/juice) we are specifically asking for donations of those ‘treat’ items that some families may have to go without this year.

For example:

  • nice biscuits
  • chocolates/selection boxes
  • Christmas crackers
  • mince pies, cakes, etc.
  • small gift sets (e.g. hand cream/deodorant)

If you are able to contribute, please can you send items in to be passed on to your child’s Crew Leader by Monday 15th December.

The hampers will be donated to St John The Evangelist Church in Balby and The Trussell Trust at Christ Church during the last week of term.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.

Crew King: Reconnecting as Crew

Coming Back Stronger

Over the last few weeks Crew King has been adjusting to new routines within XP. We have managed not only into school in difficult and challenging circumstances but also to welcome a new crew leader and WOW! I am so lucky to have been invited to become Crew King’s new crew leader.

I have been made to feel so welcomed into Crew with appreciations and support on how to develop a crew atmosphere.   We’re spending some time together as a Crew at the moment to reconnect, relearn and understand each other again.  It’s so important after so many months away from school and Crew that we can take time to listen to each other’s stories and developments.  It is also so important for us to build that unity and trust and as part of Crew Curriculum we revisited what Crew really means through discussion and the video: XP School: All about crewWe made pledges about what we hoped for this year and the honesty and integrity was fantastic.  From being on time, having integrity, to building confidence in speaking I know that Crew King will continue to grow in strength.

We made pledges about what we hoped for this year and the honesty and integrity was fantastic.  From being on time, taking time to listen to others, to building confidence in speaking I know that Crew King will continue to grow in strength.

X24 has had a magnificent start to the academic year but in particular there has been some beautiful work and great HOWLs shown by all of Crew King.  Each and every member of the Crew has been mentioned in emails, received postcards or had praise via the student praise form.  These have been great to hear and read as a Crew Leader. I know that there is more to come.

X24 Fundraising

As previously posted. This summer, X24 are taking part in fundraising for the toilet twinning scheme by walking 2 miles with 4 litres of fluid on their back, just a portion of what those we are trying to help do on a daily basis. Here is evidence from one students walk:

This is an opportunity to provide support for countries who don’t have the simple facility to wash their hands, at a time when hand washing is vital. To support please donate money via this link.
