What a Crew!!

What another fabulous week from Crew in such strange and tricky times.

I love the focus and enthusiasm from each and every Crew member first thing in a morning.

I applaud the hard work that is going into the preparation for all of their Passage Presentations. I am so looking forward to when they present them.

I have enjoyed listening to staff members praise the hard work that is taking place during the online lessons.

All in all I am very proud………yet again!!

X25 / Y9 Student of the week goes to…

In X25/Y9 the student of the week award goes to Guraaj for her outstanding contributions to discussion during online sessions and her conscientious attitude to learning.

Guraaj, you were nominated by several of your peers and teachers. You continue to exceed expectations and set an example of what working hard really looks like!

I have really enjoyed working with you in our Push to 4.0 group, your love for learning is infectious!  Keep being awesome, it certainly is not going unnoticed.

Here are a few comments your teachers/ peers have said about you:

  • My choice is a tough one. I would say this week it is Guraaj. I have no work to show as in Crew the focus has been passage and we don’t want that sharing yet until they have done it!! Gurraj has shown great HOWLS in relation to preparing for her Passage Presentation. She has also spent time helping and supporting other students in Crew to complete their work. Well done, Guraaj!

Praise and reflection for Crew Rosa Parks.

Even though Crew have not had the beginning to the new school year that they had hoped for, I have been so proud of the strength of character and resilience they have shown in adapting to working from home again. I want to praise their enthusiasm and 100% attendance  even with the wifi issues some have experienced.

Crew are also working really hard on Passage Presentation, where they have been reflecting on their journey so far at XP. It has been lovely to remind ourselves of some of their wonderful experiences in Crew over the two and a half years and to look back at photos and work.

The photos and reflections show just how quickly time goes by, how far they have come and how much they have grown and matured.

I enjoyed reminiscing with them.

I hope you enjoy the photos from when times were very different for them and us.

X25 Y9 Bubble Closure Timetable

Following the closure of our Y9/X25 bubble, we will now move to an online educational provision as shown below – this has proved to be highly effective in supporting students in other year bubble closures as engagement rates have regularly been above 95%.

Here is our protocol for online learning:

  • all Crew sessions and lessons will take place LIVE via Google Hangout and the timetable is highlighted below.
  • students will receive input from teachers and have time to complete activities on Google Classroom.
  • students are registered in Crew (8.30am), at the beginning of the morning session (9.15am) and afternoon session (1.15pm).
  • all students are expected to join each session.  If a student is absent, Crew Leaders will contact home to ascertain the reason why. If a student is unable to join a session, for example, they are unwell, we ask parents to please contact the office.
  • Crew Leaders and Expedition teachers will send Google Hangout invitations to their classes.
  • invites for live sessions will be sent through email.

A wonderful week!

Crew Rosa Parks have had a wonderfully reflective and calm week in Crew time. It started with Mindful Monday when they spent time quietly colouring and listening to calming meditative music playing in the background. It was a great way to start the week and set them   up for the lessons ahead. They all enjoyed it so much they have asked for a repeat performance soon.

.

This was followed by Tranquil Tuesday where as a Crew they spent time reading quietly to themselves.

On Flexible Friday we spent Crew time revisiting ‘What is Crew?’ During this time each one of them chose a motivational postcard for another member of Crew and wrote them a message on it. They then read them out loud to the person that they had written it to. This Crew session was one of the most emotional ones we have had for some time. The messages were beautiful and uplifting.

They are such a wonderful Crew!!

An Oscar worthy performance!

Crew Rosa Parks have been looking at the use of social media. We have looked at both the positive and negative impacts that social media can have. They have looked at their own use and have made pledges such as:-

I pledge not to go on social media/phone after 8pm

I pledge not to go on social media as much as i do

I pledge to warn others about their use of social media

I pledge to pay more attention to my family

I pledge to listen to others and concentrate what is going on around me.

We will regularly revisit the social media pledges that they ALL made.

With these pledges in mind we incorporated the arts into our Crew sessions, using drama and freeze frame techniques to present some of the negative impacts of social media.

The two groups came up with their own ideas to dramatise. In the photos above Alfie is an actor on the screen in a cinema, the rest of the group are portraying the audience who are not paying attention to the screen, they are more interested in their phones.

In the second group Sareena is showing the frustration of someone not receiving an expected reply to a message on social media and throwing her iPad to the floor. In the background Holly and Maddi are portraying visibly upset youngsters who have received unkind  comments on a Facebook post. Guraaj is pointing out to Elijah and Fin that they are looking at illegal websites for their age.

It was a really enlightening and enjoyable few Crew sessions. I have some natural performers, We may see their name in lights one day!!

Crew Rosa Parks come back stronger!!

What a fabulous return to school for all the students in Crew Rosa Parks. It was amazing to all be sat in the same room again as a Crew.

Crew have been so mature in their response to the changes that are in place in school to keep them safe. They have settled incredibly well and I am so proud of every single one of them. They have all embraced their new expedition too and are working so hard. Keep it up.

A new school year heralds new pledges for Crew, here are some examples:-

I pledge to……….

Help more people

Remember to bring all my equipment every day

To focus to the best of my ability

To help and support others

To listen at all times

To attend school everyday

To contribute more in lessons

To let others speak and not talk over them

To follow all the rules to keep us safe

As a whole Crew we have pledged to help and support each other through the coming year. We are Crew!!

X26 & X25 Coming Back Stronger!

It is wonderful to welcome back our students in Year 8 and 9 today, they have certainly returned with renewed energy and enthusiasm!

Today, is all about Crew.  Students have been spending their time today reflecting on the past few months, learning how to keep themselves safe whilst in school and most importantly reconnecting as a Crew.

I have had the pleasure of spending time in each of the Crew’s and it is great to see the students engaged, working collaboratively and happy!

What a way to start the year! #Comingbackstronger

We are Crew!!

Over the past few weeks Crew Rosa Parks have been working really hard with the school work they have been set by their teachers. A big shout out to Fin, Maddi, Andrew, Elijah, Guraaj, Josh, Holly and Georgia who consistently produce some fabulous work and hand it in punctually. Well done guys!!

Alongside this, Crew have been set an additional task and a physical challenge. The task set was to find and paint a stone with a kind and meaningful message on it. Guraaj and Andrew have some lovely examples.

Last weeks physical challenge was to see how many star jumps they could complete within a minute. Unfortunately, I have no photographic evidence of this!! I wonder why?? Are Crew getting physically lazy? This is a competition so come on Crew!!

There is a new physical Crew challenge for the coming week, this time it is how many push ups can you complete in 60 seconds? Come on Crew Rosa Parks, lets show everyone what we are made of. Don’t forget the points go towards the inter-crew competition. Don’t forget the evidence too!!

The Crew task set for the next week is a cooking task. It can be anything, savoury or sweet, it is personal choice. I can’t wait to see the results. It looks like Elijah has made a head start and has been practising.

Keeping busy.

It is the beginning of a new term. The sun has been shining and Crew Rosa Parks all seemed raring to go on our Crew hangout on Monday morning. It was fabulous to share our activities with each other that we had undertaken during the half term break. There had been numerous barbecues, lots of gardening and many bike riding experiences. Here are a few of Crew sharing what they done.

Josh had been out walking and spent time in his garden, some of it even under canvas.

Andrew had definitely developed green fingers when showing off his gardening skills. I’m not quite so sure about his brothers hairdressing skills though!!

Fin has developed his baking skills and he needs to continue with these so we can all taste his delicious servings first hand when we are back in school.

Keep all these activities up Crew Rosa Parks. You are ALL stars.
