It is with great pleasure that we can announce our new Crew identity.
Crew MRO will now been known as… (drum roll please)..
After lots of fantastic ideas and loads of great Crew discussions, naming our Crew after the actor and adventurer Brian Blessed seemed the best fit.
We feel he represents our Crew particularly well while being a great example of someone who demonstrates our schools character traits (and he’s a local guy too, he was born in Mexborough).
Courage
– He is an adventurer, he is the oldest person to reach the North Pole on foot and holds the World Record for being the oldest man to climb a height of 28,500 feet without oxygen supplement.
Compassion / Courage / Integrity / Respect
– His childhood dream was to climb Mount Everest, he’s tried 3 times but never reached the summit – ending one attempt to save the life of a fellow climber.
Craftsmanship & Quality
– He’s a renowned actor, writer, presenter and singer, awarded the OBE for services to the arts and charity.
Compassion
– He is the patron of several animal charities, including the charity Born Free and being appointed a UN Ambassador for Animal Welfare.
Cain in our Crew summed it up in his own words… “He’s as loud as I am and has a beard like Mr Robins.”
Brian Blessed is also a fully trained cosmonaut (or spaceman!) and has completed 800 hours of training in Russia.
Most people will also know Brian as the voice of Grampy Rabbit from Peppa Pig.
There aren’t many people that won’t have seen or heard Brian whether it’s in this children’s TV programme, the 80’s film Flash Gordon, Star Wars or performing some classic Shakespeare (the list goes on!).
