Students in year 8 started this term off with immersion activities for their new expedition “Fight the Power”. In Art they grappled with stencils, starting to learn the skills needed to study the street art movement this term. In Science they started to look at Atoms, Elements and Compounds and took part in some Physics challenge activities. In Humanities sessions students grappled with some Shakespeare, looking at Elizabethan insults, witches and powerful natural forces which led into their first look at Macbeth! All these activities are leading students on their journey towards the guiding question “What is power?”
Beautiful Work in year 8
Year 8 students in Art have been studying the human figure as part of their expedition “Being Human”. Their most recent assessment has been on faces, and you can see that everyone has been working really hard to improve their drawing. Critique in sessions and time grappling with skills have really paid off here!
Beautiful work in Art from C29
Our year 7 students have been getting to grips with mono printing this week – many of them trying it out for the first time! They’ve been using the skills which they have built up over the past term’s work on tone. Their images are all of artefacts relating to our expedition “From the ground up” which looks at the impact that coal mining has had on our city. We’re really proud of the beautiful work that our students are creating and hope that you’re looking forward to seeing it at their presentation of learning near the end of the term.
Ready to XP! – C29 Transition Days
Wow. What a week!
We have had the pleasure of meeting all of our new crew members this week ready for next year. C29 have ‘worked hard’ and ‘got smart’ on how we do things at XP. There was no shortage of kindness either!
Take a look for yourself…
