Beautiful work by our amazing pupils

I wanted to take this opportunity to to congratulate every single pupil at XP and XPE who has completed any of the home learning tasks over the last two weeks.

I commend your dedication to your education in this very strange time!

It has been an absolute pleasure to see your artwork and has really brought a smile to our faces. So thankyou for that.

I wanted to share some of the work that has been sent to us over the last two weeks – so it could make you smile too!

Carry on being creative, be safe and keep in touch (we love to see your work)

Thanks again from the expeditionary arts team (Miss Jones, Mr Jackson, Mrs Cross and Mr Robins).

Ennis Hill at home hangout

It has been lovely to hear from some of Crew Ennis Hill on our hangouts on Wednesday and Thursday this week and next week we hope for more crew to be involved (if they can get out of bed by 1:30pm ha ha).

Being in Y11, is posing sightly different concerns for students:

How do I fill in a maths paper online?

How do I manage the time properly (shared by all year groups)?

What do I need to do for the poetry paper (is this just revision-no)?

When do you think we will get to have prom?

I miss school!

Yes that’s right some members of X22 are missing being in school! As a lot of students are. However it is important to remember that X22 have not only been sent home for the lockdown, but may never return and this is a cause for sadness.

However as Always, Ennis Hill managed to smile their way through and we had a laugh as well as a serious discussion about the work they need to complete.

Keep smiling Ennis Hill

Beautiful art work in X22!

Ebonie has been working hard with Mr Mably to practice techniques in art to work towards her GCSE exam.

This year’s exam theme is Events -Ebonie’s ideas surround different events to do with climate change. Take a look at the result of her hard work below – some are still in progress!

Looking at the Australian Wildfires – a work in progress.

Practising techniques to create a realistic Sun!

My personal favourite – playing with techniques to create a Galaxy effect!

Great work Ebonie, and a big thank you to Mr Mably for your support!

X22 Exam Prep for Art, Craft and Design

X22 have embarked on their Final Art GCSE exam paper and have been given 8 weeks to prepare for their 10 hour exam. This is the timetable that shows what work needs to be completed within the time period. We are on week 3 and in their sketch book they should have a mind map with their ideas and a spider diagram. By next week they should have a total of 6 drawings in different media from the work of other artists that they have researched. Could parents please check to see if they are on-track at home as they should be completing extended study every week.

As you can see they are close to completing their Art GCSE and their final exam will be after the half term.

The Post-16 information evening has been re-scheduled to Thursday 7th November, at 5pm in XP East.

Following feedback from some students and families that they would find it a challenge to make it to the event whilst on their work placements, we have moved the event to make sure that it is inclusive for all of our X22 students.

Thanks for your continued support and communication.

BODMAS!

X22 (Foundation group) have grappled today with BODMAS activities.

Working hard, getting smart…. and learning the order of operations (not the kind where you remove an appendix, Mr Shakesby!)

I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Post-16 information evening for X22 students and their families.

Rescheduled: This will now take place in XP East on Thursday 7th November from 5 pm.

The evening will give students and families an opportunity to hear from students and staff in the Post-16 team about our offer in terms of academic studies, our partners in the Internship Academy programme and the exciting XP Diploma.

The XP Diploma combines qualifications, personal development, careers guidance and personalised pathways to prepare our students to be successful in the modern world. The programme is co-constructed by the student, parents and XP and is based around three central reflective questions:

1. What do I enjoy?
2. Who do I want to become?
3. Where do I want to go?

The Diploma is indicative of our determination to personalise the learning experience of students so that they are fully prepared to be successful in the modern world, which will be particularly pertinent to X22 students as they consider their next steps of study with XP whilst completing their work experience.

There will be additional open evenings during the course of the year, to which we will also invite external candidates for Post-16.

Crew Nightingale are already rising to the challenge of this crucial academic year. Students have reflected on their mock exams and created themselves new revision timetables for the first half term. These have been based on the areas from their mock exams they have identified as needing to improve.  It has been really pleasing to see the quality and integrity of their reflections as well as the targets they have set. While the mornings this week have focused on academic growth our afternoons have looked at character growth and how we can work as a Crew to achieve and succeed. Building on successes at Sports Day, Crew have built upon on these skills – listening to each other, communicating effectively and working with each other- I have been really impressed with the conversations held and actions they have taken.  I look forward to hearing Crew share their reflections during our upcoming SLCs. More on this to follow!
