X22 Exam Prep for Art, Craft and Design

X22 have embarked on their Final Art GCSE exam paper and have been given 8 weeks to prepare for their 10 hour exam. This is the timetable that shows what work needs to be completed within the time period. We are on week 3 and in their sketch book they should have a mind map with their ideas and a spider diagram. By next week they should have a total of 6 drawings in different media from the work of other artists that they have researched. Could parents please check to see if they are on-track at home as they should be completing extended study every week.

As you can see they are close to completing their Art GCSE and their final exam will be after the half term.

I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Post-16 information evening for X22 students and their families.

Rescheduled: This will now take place in XP East on Thursday 7th November from 5 pm.

The evening will give students and families an opportunity to hear from students and staff in the Post-16 team about our offer in terms of academic studies, our partners in the Internship Academy programme and the exciting XP Diploma.

The XP Diploma combines qualifications, personal development, careers guidance and personalised pathways to prepare our students to be successful in the modern world. The programme is co-constructed by the student, parents and XP and is based around three central reflective questions:

1. What do I enjoy?
2. Who do I want to become?
3. Where do I want to go?

The Diploma is indicative of our determination to personalise the learning experience of students so that they are fully prepared to be successful in the modern world, which will be particularly pertinent to X22 students as they consider their next steps of study with XP whilst completing their work experience.

There will be additional open evenings during the course of the year, to which we will also invite external candidates for Post-16.

Crew Bronte – Academic Pledges

Crew Bronte completed their Student Led Conferences a few weeks ago which included students reflecting on their mock examination results and considering academic pledges for the upcoming examinations in June. Check out Alzbeta’s reflections below on how she is currently performing in her History GCSE.

Ally’s pledge to ask for more ‘feedback’ and her determination to ‘test’ herself and ‘revise more regularly’ shows that she is really ‘getting smart’. In the next few weeks in academic crew sessions we are going to look at revision resources and techniques so that we are fully prepared for the challenges ahead!

Crew Bronte – Othello Speeches

Crew Bronte. along with other crews in X22, have been working hard this week delivering their speeches on Othello entitled, ‘Who is the most to blame for the death of Desdemona?’ The speeches have been recorded and will be sent to the Eduqas examination board so the students can gain a grade in Spoken Word which will complement their final GCSE grade in English. The speeches have been well prepared, thorough and detailed. Great work X22!!

Crew Bronte – Revising hard!

In crew today we discussed the benefits of using flash cards to aid revision. It was great to see Allie and Olivia already producing revision resources for Science to help them understand key concepts. The whole crew then focussed on an element of revision they were less confident about and produced flash cards on an aspect of that subject.

These guys are on it!

X22 Presentation of Learning -Debates

This evening X22 hosted an evening of debates in front of a public audience. As part of their latest STEAM expedition students’ final product was to plan, prepare and participate in a formal debate on contentious subjects ranging from, ‘Is the world making progress?’ to ‘Was the moon landing a hoax?’ The level of debating skills was extremely impressive and the respect shown between opposing views was clearly in evidence. Pressure was increased by the presence of an audience lending real authenticity and accountability to the evening

High quality work X22.

Today in crew, Bronte focussed on practising their speaking in Spanish in preparation for their upcoming mock examination. Special shoutouts for Ben and Paige who answered the question, ‘Where do you go on your holiday?’ in perfect Spanish with superb accents. This is what the rest of crew need to aspire to!

In addition, Katie and Ally worked on a draft revision timetable using a model from the website as inspiration, they then shared this work with the rest of crew. We agreed as a crew we would share a revision timetable over the next few days so that we can start revision next week for the mock examinations that start the week beginning 10 December.

Excellent work, Bronte!!

In Staff Crew this morning, we considered the importance of crew. We started by reflecting on how crew looks, sounds and feels and shared our thoughts and ideas about how we can make crew even better. Staff finished the session by considering their role as a crew leader and what they needed to do to improve. Just like our students we wrote pledges that we will display in crew rooms so that students can hold us to account!
