Our Year 11’s spent their first day back at Langsett Reservoir. This was a great way for pupils to have a reset and talk about their summer.
The second day was focussed on giving something back to our community. Crew Kahlo conducted a litter pick in the local area

I’ve absolutely loved working with X23 since we have returned to school! They demonstrate our character traits every day, but have been working especially hard in HUMS this week – check out some shots from History & English!
In history this week we have been focusing on Hitler’s rise to power – some fantastic work around how Nazi leaders spread their messages through using Propaganda. Some brilliant detail here from Jake, Abi, Charlotte, Gracie and Khushi!
In English, a group of students made sure James was up-to-date after missing some sessions. Fantastic group work by James, Scarlett, Cara, Anna, Sophie, Michaela, Jac and Alex! Others worked with Mrs Burns to revise the plot of An Inspector Calls, and delved further into exploring Sheila’s character. Well done Logan, Sophie and Tyler!

Well done to X23 for a positive start to VCERT PE. Yesterday we studied the knee joint and to enhance our learning we recreated the knee joint using plasticine. So many exciting ways to learn and prepare for our GCSE exams
I wanted to take this opportunity to to congratulate every single pupil at XP and XPE who has completed any of the home learning tasks over the last two weeks.

Staff and students at XP came out in force sporting their Christmas jumpers today to raise money for ‘Save the Children’.
Pupils were in good spirits as you can see from the photos taken at this mornings community meeting.
I will announce the total amount of money raised when it has been counted.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for joining in and raising money for a very worthy cause.

Y10 have been working extremely hard to get their tonal self portraits finished for their ‘Christmas Style Lecture’ that is due to take place next week.
Pupils have looked at portraits through history in order to help them with their own self portraits.
Pupils have been asked to plan a background for their portraits to show aspects of their character and what makes them who they are. They have all been asked to create a rough plan in their sketchbook. Here are some examples:
Pupils now need to complete their background and mount their tonal self portraits onto them.

X23 students have been putting together a programme of music during their Common Mission session today and welcomed Mr Portman who joined them on bass guitar.
They gave a great version of Olly Murs – My Heart Skips a Beat – see you next week sir!
X23 Skipper have been introduced to the ‘grid method’ in their art session today. They have looked at the artist Chuck Close who uses this method to create large scale photorealistic portraits.
He uses this method to ensure that the proportions are accurate. He us able to look at each individual section so he isn’t overwhelmed or overpowered by the whole image, breaking it down into more manageable areas which he can work through methodically.
Students looked at a piece of his work and used the grid method to start re-drawing his work at a slightly larger scale:

They will be using this method to create their own self portrait very soon!
