Beautiful Work This Week

Park Smart, Walk More, Stay Safe!

Plover School is excited to join the “Walk and Wheel Challenge” by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. This fun initiative gets kids walking, cycling, and wheeling to school, making travel safer and healthier.

But that’s not all! The students are also tackling a big issue – problematic parking around the school. They’ve made a video asking everyone to park considerately so driveways aren’t blocked and crossing the road stays safe.

Spread the word, watch their video, and look out for their signs around the area to support their efforts.

A Message from C29

‘This week, our school hosted the Conversation Club, shedding light on the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers. One major expense is transportation, but we realised that having a bike could eliminate this cost and provide free, reliable transport.

In response, we are organising a bike drive, inviting the community to donate any old bikes, which will be invaluable to those in need. You can drop off your bike donations at XP Doncaster, and we will ensure they are distributed by the Conversation Club to refugees and asylum seekers, helping to ease their daily struggles. Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated.’

We’re got vacancies across XP Trust!

C28’s (new Y10s) Clothes Drive!

Author Profile
21 June 2024

Claira Salter

During C28’s First week back in year 10 (which is insane!!), we’ll be completing a number of activities to positively impact our community (and that’s all i’ll say for now!).

As part of this, we’ll be running a clothes drive; focusing on protecting our planet; looking through the lens of sustainability & recycling, whilst also helping others in our community.

If, on the run up to or over summer, you have a clear out, or have any clothing or footwear items you could donate (of all sizes, kids and adults, in a wearable condition!), we’re asking that you bring the items to XP Reception (preferably bagged!).

We’re happy to start collecting this from now, with a view to donate the clothing towards the end of the first week back.

Here is a link to The Clothing Bank’s webpage for you to look at; the work they do is incredibly touching.

“Around 20% of the UK Population (13,500,000 people) was estimated to be living in poverty in the UK 2018.
We found out first hand, that people that fall just above this line are struggling more than ever to clothe themselves or their family after having to pay for the everyday living costs.
Due to the current climate we can only expect this number to inflate.
Right now, more than ever, people need the security of being able to clothe themselves and their loved ones.”
Sally Parkinson CO-Founder | The Clothing Bank

Thanks, as always!

C26/Y11 Leavers Celebration – Friday 28th June

Claira Salter

With exams finally over, we have spent this week enjoying Y11’s Final Word presentations which have given students the opportunity to reflect on their time at XP/XPE and truly appreciate both their academic and character growth. There may even have been a few tears shed… (OK, so maybe that was just us!)

Students who have presented their Final Word (or have booked to do so next week) will receive an invitation to our Leavers Celebration on Friday 28th June.

This is the plan for the afternoon:

1.15-2.15: Arrival and shirt-signing.

2.15-3.15: Our final inter-crew competition!

Parents are invited to join us from 3.15 for the rest of the afternoon’s celebrations – please head to XP East.

3.30-4pm: Y11 Community Meeting, including our Crew Hero awards!

4pm-5.30: Refreshments… and a few surprises!

See you all soon – hopefully the weather will be kind to us!

C29 – Conversations with Conversation Club

Author Profile
19 June 2024

Claira Salter

A Message from the Students of C29:

Hello everyone,

This week, we had the privilege of hosting the Conversation Club at our school, where we learned about the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers. It was eye-opening to discover that they receive just £50 a week to cover essentials like food, clothing, and hygiene products.

One of the significant expenses they encounter is transportation, which can cost up to £5 a day. This is a considerable amount given their limited budget. However, we realised that having a bike could eliminate this expense entirely, providing them with free and reliable transportation.

To help make a difference, we are organising a bike drive. We are reaching out to our community for donations of any old bikes that you no longer need. Bikes in any condition (unless completely broken) can be incredibly valuable. At XP we pride ourselves on our curriculum themes and our outward facing work, and this is opportunity for our Crew to participate in both!

You can drop off your bike donations at XP/E, and we will ensure they reach the Conversation Club, who will distribute them to those in need. Your generous contributions will be greatly appreciated by the refugees and asylum seekers and will help ease their daily struggles.

Thank you so much for your support and kindness.

Warm regards,

The Students of C29
