XP/E Parliament Fieldwork –  Important Information & Consent Required

We are pleased to confirm that all parents and carers of children who have been successful in their application to visit parliament have now been contacted via email.

If you have not received an email please do not complete the form.

Please find the official confirmation letter attached. We are so proud of the high quality applications which we have received!

Please complete the consent form linked to confirm your child’s attendance and to acknowledge the early drop-off time. This must be completed by Friday 6th June at the latest, without it your child will not be able to attend.

Important note for C28 students who have been successful:
Students taking part in work experience that week will attend their placement for two days instead of three to fully participate in this valuable opportunity. If needed, there may be flexibility to rearrange work days—this must be discussed and agreed with Mrs Burns individually.

Please note that attendance on this fieldwork is conditional. Should a student’s HOWLs, behaviour, or attendance decline before the fieldwork, their place may be reconsidered.

We are really looking forward to this exciting and enriching day of learning in the heart of our democracy.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Year 11 Historians Explore Industrial Heritage at Plant Works for GCSE Study

This week C27 were able to tour the historic plantworks site in Hexthorpe, Donaster. Here they took a tour of the Wabtec facility from the HVAC testing shop to the erecting house which was home to the legendary Flying Scotsman. The students were able to take in the history of the location as they were escorted around the 22 acre site seeing where it reached to at the height of production, spanning a staggering 90 acres. The site has been an integral part of our community for more than 170 years employing thousands of local people who worked numerous jobs from labourers to master craftspeople. The plant was also an integral part of the war effort with Doncaster women becoming ‘Munitionettes’, working long hours in dangerous conditions.

With the future of the site being discussed this may well be the last cohort from XP Trust to visit such an important part of Doncasters heritage. With this area of Hexthorpe being home to such historic achievements and listed buildings it really was a privilege to be welcomed into this local slice of industry.

C30 Fieldwork – July 2nd / 4th

Year 7’s current expedition ‘Hold Back the River’ has the guiding question, ‘How does water shape our world?’

During this expedition, our geography content is focusing on river characteristics from source to mouth, river processes, formation of landforms as well as the cause, impacts and responses of flooding. As part of this, we are applying the theory of river processes and characteristics to the field.

On Tuesday 2nd (East) and Thursday 4th (XP) of July, students will visit Endcliffe park in Sheffield. They will work together to collect data regarding the width, depth, velocity and load of rivers. We will also be capturing the beauty of a river by completing artwork. This data collection will allow us to accept or reject our hypothesis once we have analysed our data in our maths lessons.

Students will need to arrive at school no later than 8.00am so that the register and kit check can be completed before leaving school.

It is also essential that all students bring all of the kit on the KIT LIST so that they are fully prepared for the fieldwork; this includes a packed lunch and water to drink. Students who receive free school meals will be provided with a lunch.

Students will need to ensure they have suitable walking boots/trainers as well as wellies or a pair of trainers they can get wet – we’ll be going in the river to collect the data!  If there are any problems in getting the appropriate kit before this, please email your child’s Crew Leader.

Students will be returning to school by the end of the school day (traffic dependent).
