Crew Caldwell – English PROFESSIONALS!

2nd October 2026 Melissa Cocliff

If you walked past the Year 11 English classrooms today, it might have been fair to assume that Crew Caldwell had vanished with how quiet they were!

I experienced all of our grade 7+ Year 11s in full “beast mode” – tackling a 25 mark question around the theme of family in Romeo & Juliet in their Literature-focused session – yes, on a Friday morning!

Pens were flying across paper at light speed, quotes were being plucked out of the depths of brains, and essays were being constructed with an intense concentration. It was absolute, uninterrupted focus from start to finish – a real masterclass!

Honestly, I am ridiculously proud of them. Facing down a big assessment isn’t easy, but they treated it like absolute pros.

Smashed it, Year 11. Keep up that momentum!

Miss Cocliff x

D6 Starts on 3rd October for Y10 and Y11

1st October 2026 Mirus Iwaskow

Day 6 (D6!) will begin this Saturday (October 3rd)  for our Y10/Y11 students!

The session will run from 9:30am-12pm – it’s an optional/voluntary session, where students are able to access additional support with learning – or just have a relaxed space for focused self study away from potential distractions away from home.

Students can come and go as they wish, and do not have to stay for the whole session – they’ll just need to sign in and out.

D6 will be supported by Student Coaches – ex-students of XP & XPE –  who have returned to provide our current students with peer to peer academic study support. We’re currently in the process of recruiting coaches to support.

Please encourage Y11s to come along to squeeze in some extra revision time. They’ll see the benefits on results day!

Y7 Crew EWA – Wise Wednesdays: Celebrating Diversity & Community

30th September 2026 Emma Watson

In our recent Wise Wednesdays session, students explored what diversity means to them and how understanding our differences brings us together.

Crew reflections were awesome, and students were really engaged in the learning.

Respect & Inclusion: We should celebrate what makes us unique, share our perspectives, and never judge others for being different.

Beyond Culture: Diversity includes our backgrounds, values, and distinct personalities.

Learning from History: Students reflected on historical struggles for equality – researching influential people like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela.

Our students showed amazing empathy and proved that learning about one another is the best way to build a kind, connected community.

Awesome Crew session!

Celebrating 16th Birthdays

30th September 2026 Amie Hudson

Today we got to celebrate a pretty special milestone as a Crew, one of our crew members turning 16. One of the things I love most most about Crew is that it’s about so much more than school. It’s about belonging. knowing each other properly and being there for the moments that matter. Birthdays are definitely one of those moments.

We had chocolate chip muffins and played favourite song, plenty of laughs and quite possibly the most brilliantly personal birthday present ever, a blanket featuring ‘Besties’.

Sixteen is a big one and it was lovely to spend it together.

Happy 16th Birthday!

High Expectations and Great Focus: Inside Mr. Morrison’s Maths Group

28th September 2026 Claira Salter

There was maths energy in the air last week when visiting Mrs. Morrison and Mr. Elliot’s Year 11 Maths group. From the moment the lesson began, it was clear that this is a room where high expectations were met by great effort—and the results speak for themselves.

Stepping into the classroom, the first thing that struck me was the level of focus. Every student was fully immersed in their maths learning, head down, and working with real purpose.

  • Deliberate Practice: Students diving straight into complex problem-solving, building fluency and confidence step by step.
  • Pride in Presentation: Clear, step-by-step working out that showed a deep understanding for the concepts.

This was a clear framework of support and challenge. The combined drive from Mr. Morrison and Mrs. Fowler creates an environment where students were able to succeed.

By holding students to exceptionally high standards, Mr. Morrison and Mrs. Fowler are actively pushing students out of their comfort zones to accelerate their progress.

“Getting smart” isn’t something that happens by accident—it’s the direct result of consistent effort, expert guidance, and a relentless work ethic.

Classroom Highlights: Passion, Persistence, and Precision in Year 11 Maths

28th September 2026 Claira Salter

Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of dropping in on Mrs. Goddard’s Year 11 Maths group.

As Year 11 ramps up, the pressure can build quickly, but stepping into this classroom I saw focus, effort, and high expectations. In mathematics, retention is everything—topics build upon one another like building blocks, so these sessions are key.

It was fantastic to see the whole group actively engaging with previously learned material, strengthening their memory pathways, and proving that hard work pays off.

While the whole group deserves huge credit for their work rate, a special mention must go to Heidi.

Heidi showcased true craftsmanship in her learning demonstrating what it truly means to “get smart” through additional Sparx engagement.

Mrs. Goddard’s group showed exactly what Year 11 is all about: dedication, deliberate practice, and a determination to improve every single day.
