XP School

Students have been looking at the causes of World War One in their history lessons over the last couple of weeks. As we worked towards answering our Long Term Learning Target:  I can evaluate the causes of WWI.

This week we have begun to examine the use of propaganda in World War One and how it was used to recruit soldiers for war.

In English our focus has been to develop our skills around descriptive writing. We have ‘purple penned’ our first attempts and are using our anchor text ‘War Girls’ to inspire our writing.

This week X24 have been looking at tourist activities, with an emphasis on shops and shopping. Today they grappled with a KWL protocol, identifying what language they already know, but also working out what was new to them too. Have a look at the beautiful work from Imogen, Isaac, Kyra and Amber.

Today Year 10 carried out a running text protocol, working on short term memory. The text contained positives and negatives about the places we live in and can visit, and students certainly showed a sense of competition too. Have a look at them working hard towards the Learning Target ‘I can identify positives and negatives about a tourist destination’.

Last week our year 9 students were lucky enough to spend the day working with artist, Ian Murphy. This workshop was part of the immersion for our new expedition and allowed the students to spend the day improving their own practice and studying the beautiful canvasses, sketches, paintings and sketch books that Ian brought in to show us.

Over the past few lessons X27 have been grappling with GCSE content regarding Christian Belief’s about the Creation story. We have embedded this further by splitting into groups and producing a jigsaw piece which symbolises one of the 7 days of creation. 

Students then presented their thoughts in their groups regarding which day they think is most important. A fantastic discussion had by all! Well done for working hard Ethics!

X28 Skipper have been working hard in HUMAN. We are getting closer to finishing our first Case Study of our expedition ‘For King and Another Country’.

We have discussed the main causes of World War One and consolidated our understanding of our anchor text with a comprehension test. Super impressed Skipper!

Y10 (X25/E25) have been looking at war landscapes for their expedition this term with the guiding question “are we really free to choose?”

This task fell in time perfectly for remembrance day (11/11/21) where the students finished off their Van Gogh samples.

I’m incredibly proud of their work and their efforts with this technique. Well done year 10!!!

LOOL Citizenship student Nida shared this fantastic set of revision notes she has been working hard on over the weekend! Nida has been collecting information on the UK’s role in global organisations, ready for her next Citizenship lesson. What an amazing role model Nida is to fellow Year 10 students for working hard!

An awesome start to Immersion week for X28 (Year 8) today! They have hit the ground running, designing their own government and country. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you gave a 12 or 13 year old keys to their own country? Have them choose the type of government to oversee it, and design their own immigration and international relations policies? X28 have designed thoughtful countries, researched different forms of government, created and designed a national anthem, and decided which international organisations to apply for membership too. A great start to Immersion year 8!
