As you are already aware, Accelerated Reader is a proven and sharply focused reading program which aims to build students’ reading enjoyment, resilience and accelerates reading progress. We understand the rich rewards that reading provides and we have worked hard to build a successful culture of reading within our school community. However, our library stock appears to be dwindling fast! This said, if you could have a look at home for any books your son/daughter may have forgotten to bring back this would be appreciated. I know that all parents will be joining us over the next couple of weeks for SLCs, so this may be a good opportunity for you to bring in any of the books you may find hiding away at home!
We are also open to any donations of any books at any time; especially fiction texts.
Studies show that students who achieve in the top 10% read for 40 minutes or more per day. With this in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to reinforce our expectation that students should read for around two hours per week or more during extended study to maximise the program’s potential. We have found that students who read and test regularly on the program are more successful and ‘grow’ their reading age more rapidly.
