Year 8 Spanish Extended Study

Students need to research a Central or South American Spanish – speaking country, and make notes in English about what is popular there in terms of sport and freetime activities. This can be shared as a googledoc, or written in their exercise book. Due date is Friday 12th May.

Year 8: Waves assessment REVISION

Year 8 have a short assessment on waves tomorrow. There are some anchor charts (posters with important information) on google classroom which they can use to revise. If students log in to classroom and then click on 8.3 waves, there are a series of photographs of the anchor charts that are up in our classroom.

We have spoken today about how to use these. Self-testing is a very effective way to make knowledge permanent. So students ought to spend around an hour tonight, covering sections of the anchor chart and then testing themselves on what they have hidden. It helps to have pen and paper near so that they can make a note of things that they have forgotten. Then retesting on the forgotten bits just ten minutes later will strengthen the memory, even more so than had they never forgotten in the first place.

It would be really helpful if friends and family could test them on this too.

8 SKIPPER STEM: Easter extended study

  1. Students need to do a first draft of an informative article about the Loma Prieta (1989) or Port au Prince (2010) earthquake. I have shared a writing frame, assessment rubric and resources to help on google classroom. There is also a model piece about Christchurch (2011) which we critiqued today. (DUE WEDNESDAY NEXT WEEK)
  2. Respond to all feedback on ripple tank write up in their google doc. (DUE FRIDAY NEXT WEEK)

Year 8 Extended Study – Ripple Tank

Students need to complete a final draft of their write up of the investigation into the wavelength and frequency of waves in a ripple tank.

They have started a first draft in their books, which must be completed by Thursday of this week.

The deadline for the final draft, which must be done in google docs, is Monday 10th April at 8pm.

Article Research Y8 Skipper and Admiral

Year 8 Skipper and Admiral have a specific earthquake or tsunami to research. This research needs to be completed by Friday 24th March so that students can begin writing their scientific article from Monday 27th March.

As students will be writing scientific articles they will need their devices each session over the forthcoming weeks.
