Football round up

C28 had their first league game of the season and what a game it was. Nerves, excitement, tension…this one had it all. The boys welcomed visitors Laurel to XP in which turned out to be a tough encounter in blustery conditions.

The first half was a cagey one, with both teams defending resolutely. The deadlock was broken after 18 minutes when CR was brought down in the area. HB converted, straight down the middle, too powerful for the opposing goalkeeper. Chances fell to either side in the first half with KG commanding his area excellently. EC was holding the ball up well and linking up with the midfield.

After the break, it took 7 minutes to get a second. CR winning a free kick around 20 yards out. The wind behind him, he took aim and put the ball in the top corner with a phenomenal strike. 2-0 up and starting to control the game.

Defenders OP, ZS and JB were proving a challenge for the Laurel attackers and put their bodies on the line. There was 5 minutes to go when HB broke through on the counter putting the ball on a plate for a simple tap in.

XP fought hard for the remainder of the game, coming out 3-0 winners. The game was played in the right spirit and enjoyed by both teams, coaches and spectators. Well done to all involved!
