Life In Balance Final Product

The year 8 expedition Life in Balance culminated with students designing and delivering a presentation to an authentic audience during a presentation of learning. This was in the theme of “an inconvenient truth”, and allowed them to evaluate and synthesise the key themes of the expedition. This is Skipper’s Life in Balance presentation of learning….

Y8 Skipper and Admiral Extended Study

Students have been set 3 tasks to complete as Extended Study over the half term.

Artist research on the work of Joseph Cornell, students must start a google doc entitled ‘What does it mean to be human?’ Adding in their thoughts so far regarding the guiding question and finally a statistics assignment where they will need to analyse their fitness testing data using averages.

Beautiful Work by year 8

Year 8 have been creating beautiful styrofoam models of skeletal joints in the Design and Technology workshop as part of their ‘Being Human’ expedition. Here you can see examples of ball and socket joints in the hip where the femur joins the pelvis. There are also some hinge joints based on knee and elbow joints and a saddle joint based on a knuckle.

The students worked really hard over two days to learn how to cut and shape the styrofoam and we’re really proud of their products!IMG_5544

That’s Sick Final Product

The final products for the That’s Sick expedition that our year 7 students completed last year were information posters that will be displayed at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. Each class made two posters – one showing the Cardio-Respiratory System and one showing the Digestive system.

Here are the final versions of the posters….

Y8 Extended Study Admiral and Skipper

Students have been set the following extended study due Monday 12th September in session.

Explain the thoughts, feelings and questions that you have after studying the Animals Inside Out Exhibition. Think carefully about the exhibition and how this relates to our learning expedition. Write this up on a Google Doc and share this with Mr Voltaire, Mrs Batty and Mr Jackson.

Year 8: Devices

Students in Year 8 are asked to bring their own device every Friday so that are able to begin writing reflections on the expedition as they progress through it. This is in preparation for part of their final product which is a speech that answers our guiding question; What does it mean to be human?

A polite reminder to all parents and students that all Year 8 students will be going out on fieldwork this Thursday 8th to view the ‘Animals Inside Out’ exhibition at the Life Centre in Newcastle.

Due to the travel time to our destination and to avoid heavy traffic, all students are asked to be at school no later than 07.50, ready for a prompt departure at 08.00. We are being picked up by coach so is very important that all students are at XP on time so that we are able to complete all activities at the exhibition.

Mr Sprakes has very kindly agreed to drive the school mini bus and collect students who travel by bus from the bus station at the earlier time of 07.30 and will depart for school at 07.40 so that they can be at school on time for the coach.

Students will leave the Life Centre at 14.00 and will aim to arrive back to school at 16.00 for collection by parents. Should there be any delays on our journey back to school, we will update the school website on Front Page News with any new arrival times. Please check the website for this before leaving to collect your son or daughter.

The fieldwork will take place indoors and so will need normal school dress. Students will also need to bring their stationary and a packed lunch. If your son or daughter usually has a dinner provided by school, they will receive a packed lunch from school.
