Not running this week

D6 is paused for this weekend as we have staff days on Friday and Monday. Most year 11 students are in school for the staff days so it would be unfair to ask them to also attend school on a Saturday.

D6 will be running as normal next week, Saturday 19th March and moving forward for both year 11 & year 10. With only a few weeks left before GCSEs start please encourage your student to attend. Just 6 sessions can make a huge difference to outcomes for students committed to improving their grades.

Careers Website

Please click on the link to check out all that is Careers at XP

My name is Kathryn Burns and I am Careers Lead at both schools. Please click on the link to check out all that is Careers at XP. The people most students take advice from are parents / grandparents and carers so it’s important that you know how best to support them in making their choices in their next steps on their academic journey. Please have a look and let me know if there’s anything missing or anything is difficult to navigate. Email [email protected]

To help your student to achieve the grades they deserve encourage them to attend D6 on Saturdays, 9am – 12.30pm. There are 11 more available Saturdays left of D6 this year, that’s 38.5 extra hours of quality revision supported by coaches who have been through the GCSE stage at XP, are experts at revision, study planning, answering exam questions. At the moment D6 is open to all our year 10’s and year 11’s.

XP/East revision website

Year 11 Crew Leaders, Phase Leads, Teachers and Learning Coaches have put together a website to support your student whether in year 11 or year 10 by creating an enormous resource bank with a range of different techniques to revise. Please encourage them to access these resources in the run up to summer exams.

TODAY’S THE DAY! C24 & 25 Parents Evening – Post 16 Provision. Wednesday 8th December 2021 at XP East 5.30pm to 7.30pm

XP & XP East are proud to announce our Post 16 Evening and would like to extend the invitation to parents/carers and students in years 10 & 11 at both schools. FXP have kindly offered to support so refreshments will be available on the night and all funds raised will support our students across both schools. As you will be aware opportunities to attend potential provisions have been difficult to arrange so at XP we decided to invite providers to come and meet our students.

Local 6th form providers have been invited to give a short presentation and will be available with stalls for the rest of the evening to answer any question you may have about their Post 16 provision. We are delighted with the response so far from providers and are looking forward to supporting our students in making informed choices as they come to the end of their XP journey. Please complete the form in the link below if you will be attending.

Post 16 Provider of the Week Doncaster College

Doncaster College have had a Hugh transformation recently, with a dedicated School Leaver provision for Post 16 students, an introduction of T Levels and an abundance of apprenticeship courses. They are also affiliated with Doncaster Knights Rugby alongside football through their Academy of Sport. They offer level 1 & level 2 courses for students that may struggle academically but also offer level 3 access to students with GCSE 4 and above.

Careers at XP HQ

At XP we have always had careers at the heart of our expeditions whether it’s working together with experts, out on fieldwork or creating our products. Given the importance of our career, its time to further develop and improve our programme throughout the school, not forgetting our XP16 provision

I would like to invite you check out our  XP Careers HQ Website

The website gives information on our career policy and programme we offer, helpful links and tools to aid guidance in GCSE options, post-16 & post-18 opportunities including university, apprenticeships & jobs of the future as well as details of careers related events happening throughout the school.  This website is designed to be continuously updated to make sure our learners:

  • Raise aspirations
  • Develop confidence in making decisions and career choices
  • Develop an understanding of the world of work and how to respond to changes in today’s workplace

Please explore the website and I hope you find it useful when supporting our young people with these all important decisions.  I would appreciate feedback on the website and please, do not hesitate to contact me Kathryn Burns, Careers Lead, [email protected] or submit form below Enjoy!

New College Doncaster Taster Day

C25 and C24 spent the day as college students at New College today. Many thanks to Brendan, Scott and the team for welcoming XP East and XP Year 11 and 10 students to allow them the opportunity of experiencing some of the courses on offer. Students each chose 3 courses and had a session in each subject for both BTEC and A Level courses. We had lots of positive feedback and really in-depth reflection on how the day had helped students begin to focus on their next steps after GCSE. As Careers Lead at both schools I look forward to supporting students in making applications to the numerous Post 16 provisions in the area.

C24 Virtual Work Experience

I am excited to say we are having our first Virtual Work Experience day at XP and XP East tomorrow 8th July. This will be for all our year 10 students at both school including the ones unable to attend at the moment, so a fully inclusive event. We have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to have a full day of employer based presentations and workshops. Students from XP East who are at home will be sent a link and Miss Parker and myself will support them through the day and the students in school will be supported by staff. This is an amazing opportunity to look through the lens of work with some key sectors onboard for the experience. As Careers Lead for both schools, I am super excited to be planning a range of Further Education and Careers opportunities for the next academic year so please watch this space for updates.
