Crew Darling hits the fields!

Crew Darling, a wild adventure..

On Friday afternoon, Crew Darling embarked on a walk to the Lake. This was a reward for their fantastic improvement in their HOWLS this term!

This adventure involved football, refreshing water fights and hill top chats, with a lovely debrief at the end. Followed by a community meeting.  Crew really enjoyed this and clearly immersed themselves with the outside world! So much so, they wanted to document their journey in this blog post!

They were also joined by the lovely, Crew Southgate.

Beautiful Sportsmanship in X28!

I was lucky enough to join X28 in some PE this afternoon for some sunshine – and some Premier League quality skills! Super shout outs to Nima, Dani, Sam and Shay! Excellent work!!!  (it’s a shame the same can’t be said for Mr Currie’s skills!!!)

X28 Crew Darling (EWI) What do our HOWLS really mean to us?

During crew time, Crew Darling (EWI) have been looking at what our HOWLS really mean to us! Crew split into three groups, focusing on working hard, getting smart and being kind.. this was then followed with a fantastic presentation to the rest of crew, sharing their thoughts and ideas about HOWLS and how they can be the best version of themselves going forward!

7 Admiral… what a class!

Due to staff absence and the recent police event, I have covered 7 Admiral twice this week and I must say I have been mightily impressed with the conduct of 7 Admiral.

On Tuesday, I worked with students on their final products where they were responding to feedback, drafting and redrafting their pieces of creative writing. They could fully use the rubrics to self assess their work, and their ideas were fantastic.

Today in Miss Vayro’s lesson, we moved the class desks to the sides of the classroom and we all circled up with zero fuss. Miss Buckley organised a reading of their expedition’s anchor text ‘White Poppies’, and students read their parts aloud to the class with enthusiasm and passion.

C28 Admiral getting smart in HUMAN and producing BEAUTIFUL WORK!

Admiral have been producing beautiful work in Human. This week we have started Case Study 2, focusing on religious perspectives of war, pacifism and sanctity of life! Students grappled with the difference between Martin Luther who translated the Bible and Martin Luther King (American civil rights). Look at their beautiful work below..

4th for CMFCB in Gateshead

Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band at the Sage, Gateshead on Saturday

Our brass band visitors from last week (Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band) achieved a fantastic 4th place (out of 10) at the weekend. The comments about their performance on the brass band website ‘4barsrest’ were outstanding and the concluding comment read as below…

Wow. So much to commend in this whole performance from Carlton Main — the presentation, choreography (among the band, and the wonderful modern dance) and the playing was top drawer. Such a clever interpretation of an imposing theme, executed so well.

It was lovely to share in this experience with them and for our students to see the work that goes into such a performance.

X28 Experts – Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band

We are very lucky to have secured the world class Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band to visit XP as experts for Year 7 (X28) as part of their expedition ‘From The Ground Up’.

We have been studying brass bands as part of this expedition and couldn’t have found a better example for the students to hear than Frickley, who are currently the No.10 best band in the world!

They will visit XP on Wednesday 17th November where they will rehearse for our students from 8:00pm – 9:00pm. Students will need to arrive (through the normal student entrance) for 7:45pm. Students will need to be dropped off and collected by a suitable adult from Car Park 3 (the normal car park at the side of school). Students will come into XP school and sit on the main stairs.

Please complete this form so we have an idea of numbers. It is an expectation for students to attend an event like this unless there is a particular reason for being unable to (eg. a prior commitment or a transport issue).

Year 7 Immersion – Dia de los Muertos

November 1st and 2nd mark the festival of Day of the Dead in Mexico, and Year 7 spent their Spanish session this week learning all about this festival, and attempting to create an important part of the festivities – papel picado – or paper cutting. In Mexico this is very intricate and time consuming. Our version was simpler but gave students an opportunity to experience this unique craft!

Students watched a video in Spanish showing how to create a simple papel picado design. Then they worked independently, watching the video again in their own time, trying to recreate the cutting done in the video. The results were absolutely fantastic! Buen trabajo Year 7.
