C24 (year 7) Fieldwork 27th and 28th September

7 Skipper will be going out on fieldwork on Wednesday 27th Sept.

7 Admiral will be going out on fieldwork on Thursday 28th Sept.

The fieldwork is located at a range of former quarries where students can study exposures of the 3 main types of rock found at Warmsworth Park, Cedar Road in Balby and Barnburgh cliff. Students will carry out fieldwork alongside geological experts at each site, looking at the bedrock and superficial deposits in detail, as well as taking measurements of the dimensions of each site. Students will be back for 15.15

They will need to be prepared for the weather. At the moment the forecast looks good, however please keep an eye on this as we get closer to the fieldwork.

Long trousers and sleeves are best as we will be walking through some overgrown areas.

Wellies and a raincoat are advisable whatever the weather.

Students will need a pack up lunch, they can take this in their normal school bags. We can provide lunch for students on free school meals.

Student will also need a bottle of water.

Admiral will be doing PE during X Block on Wednesday 27th and Skipper Thursday 28th so please bring kit.

Any problems please let Mr Campbell know on [email protected]

Thanks

Mr Campbell

We have a presentation of learning this Monday 12th December for Year 7.

Students need to stay in school between 3.15pm and the start of the presentation at 5.30pm. If students are bringing a change of clothes, they can leave this with their crew leader or in lockers as is appropriate.

Students must not leave the site unless accompanied by their own parent/s. They would need to be back in school for 5.15pm.

Students should be dressed smartly, so ideally in a shirt/blouse type top with either dark jeans, a skirt or pants.

Sportswear should be avoided if possible.

Students have asked to wear Christmas themed clothing, however since the event is about us paying respect to the miners, and is not a Christmas themed celebration, we feel that this is not appropriate for Monday evening.

(As a school we’ll be doing a fundraising event on Friday of next week around Christmas clothing – more details to follow)

Finally, please remember to use car park 2 for the event, as there is a drive in cinema in car park 3. If this presents access problems, please contact the school office to make arrangements.

Year 7 Presentation of Learning

The Year 7 presentation of learning for their current learning expedition will take place on the evening of Monday 12th December. We will have more details on exact timings in due course.

It is really important that every student attends, and has someone from their family come to the event to celebrate the incredible work that they are doing.

Y7 Humanities Extended study

The final draft for Skipper and Admiral’s Joan of Arc Googledoc is Monday 7th March.

Students also have a written response to produce on the Guiding Question for the expedition we have just completed. The Guiding Question was:

Were there any glimmers in the Dark Ages?

Students will need to consider anything good that happened during this time period and any negative things and then decide overall whether the Dark Ages were good or bad.

More detail will be shared with students in session tomorrow, but the deadline for this is also Monday 7th March.

Year 7 Spanish Extended Study

Both Year 7 classes have words to learn how to spell in Spanish for next week (Admiral’s test is on Monday, Skipper’s test is on Tuesday). It is the list of school subjects in their exercise books; any student who would like extra support with learning techniques should see Mrs Sprakes on Friday.
