X25 Xblock

In X25 we are looking at facades of buildings and artists who are influenced by them. They have used a range of media to re-create one of the artist compositions.

Today we have gone outside to draw from observation and look at one point perspective, making our observational drawings look realistic. Here they are working hard!

Extended study has been set for X25 to take photographs of their own house (focussing on the facade). They can also take photographs of interesting facades in Doncaster or of a friends/family house. They need to have their photographs ready for x-block session next week.

MANTRA visits XP

We’ve been really lucky this week to have the MANufacturing TRAnsport visiting from the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Sheffield.  On Monday and Tuesday this week, students from XP and XP East have been able to experience something of the future of manufacturing and engineering on this fantastic lorry!  We’ve handled objects, used AR to investigate an engine and tried out virtual MIG welding.  Congratulations to Kelsea who was the champion welder with an impressive 91% score for the quality of her weld!

We’re looking forward to working again with the team from the AMRC and would like to appreciate them for their hard work in setting everything up and working with our students.

X25 Celebration of Learning – REMINDER

A reminder that the X25 (Year 7) celebration of learning is this Wednesday evening, 19th December from 5.30pm until around 7.00pm.

It is important that every student has someone from their family at this event as it helps to provide an authentic audience for their work in what will be a great celebration of their efforts in their very first learning expeditions at XP.

Students are asked to dress smartly as this is a formal occasion. Students can bring a change of clothes or can choose to attend in smart clothes for the whole day.

Student must stay in school between 3.15pm and the start of the celebration of learning. They will be given some time to relax after school and before the last rehearsals, so they can bring a pack up tea if they choose.

X25 Immersion fieldwork in January

In the New Year, X25 students will be visiting the National Mining Museum in Wakefield as part of their Immersion for the next expedition.

Admiral will be visiting on Wednesday 9th January and Skipper will be visiting on Thursday 10th January.  We will be leaving promptly at 8.45am and hope to be back in school by 3.15 pm, traffic allowing.

Students will need to bring a packed lunch with them including a drink, students on Free School Meals will be provided with a packed lunch/drink.

It is recommended that students wrap up warm for the visit, a warm coat, sensible shoes (trainers/boots- no heels) are recommended.  A small amount of time will be spent outside and with the weather starting to turn I also recommend students bring a hat, scarf and a pair of gloves.

Reminder C24 Ullswater Meeting Tomorrow

A reminder that there is a meeting tomorrow for all families of C24 Year 7 students about their trip to Ullswater at the start of Year 8 in August.

This meeting will take place at XP School at 6pm, if required please park in Car Park 3 and fill in your car registration on the sign in sheet when you arrive and we can pass that on to the Rovers.

Also it would be great if you were able to bring the £10 kit deposit to that meeting too.

No X Block this week due to Immersion

As is usual during immersion into new learning expeditions, there will be no X Block in Year 7 or Year 8 in the upcoming week.

This means that Year 7 and Year 8 students will not need PE kit for Tue – Thu this week.

Year 8 students should still bring their PE kit as usual tomorrow.

All students students should still bring their PE kit as usual on Friday too.

Year 8 will be being placed into new X block groups. These will be shared later this week, as it does mean that the day on which each Year 8 student gets their X Block PE sessions may change. X block will start again in the week commencing 15th January.

Learning Expeditions for January – February 2018

All classes will be starting exciting new learning expeditions or in some cases learning expedition slices, which will run until our two week break in February.

Please find below details of the staff that will be working with each class. For any queries relating to your son or daughter’s learning expeditions, please contact the lead teacher in the first instance.

C24 POL

The culmination of C24’s first expedition for the last few months will be from 5.30 to 7.00 on Tuesday 19th December.

As such, we would like to invite the parents, carers and families of all our Year 7 students to their first Presentation of Learning.

Students will share an extract from the product, which they have worked really hard on over the last few weeks.

Please have your car registration details to type in at reception on your arrival.

C24 (year 7) Fieldwork Rearranged 4th and 5th October

Unfortunately we have had to rearrange the fieldwork on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th to the week after.

Skipper will now do fieldwork in Wednesday 4th October.

Admiral on Thursday 5th October.

The fieldwork is located at a range of former quarries where students can study exposures of the 3 main types of rock found at Warmsworth Park, Cedar Road in Balby and Barnburgh cliff. Students will carry out fieldwork alongside geological experts at each site, looking at the bedrock and superficial deposits in detail, as well as taking measurements of the dimensions of each site.

Students will be back for 15.15

They will need to be prepared for the weather. At the moment the forecast looks good, however please keep an eye on this as we get closer to the fieldwork.

Long trousers and sleeves are best as we will be walking through some overgrown areas.

Wellies and a raincoat are advisable whatever the weather.

Students will need a pack up lunch, they can take this in their normal school bags. We can provide lunch for students on free school meals.

Student will also need a bottle of water.
