X23’s tonal self portraits looking amazing!

Y10 have been working extremely hard to get their tonal self portraits finished for their ‘Christmas Style Lecture’ that is due to take place next week.

Pupils have looked at portraits through history in order to help them with their own self portraits.

Pupils have been asked to plan a background for their portraits to show aspects of their character and what makes them who they are. They have all been asked to create a rough plan in their sketchbook. Here are some examples:

Pupils now need to complete their background and mount their tonal self portraits onto them.

Here is one in progress:

Im looking forward to seeing this piece of work completed and displayed next week! Well done X23! Keep up the fantastic work!

Crew Hahn

Crew Hahn had 2 crew sessions today.

This mornings session we checked in and then continued planning our charity fundraising ideas.

So far we will be holding a raffle, Guess the name of the cute puppy, car washing (during the summer months) and encouraging the ‘staff with beards’ to shave them off all to raise money for Cancer Research.

We have a target set of £250.

So far Mr Voltaire, Mr ap Harri & Mr Said have all agreed to rid themselves of their facial hair if we manage to raise the full £250!

This afternoon we celebrated Tom’s birthday. Tom got to choose what we did and he chose to play dodge ball.

Before we started we discussed our character traits to our newest crew member, Josh explaining what these would look like, feel like and sound like during a game of dodge ball.

I think you can see we had a lot of fun as crew.

Happy Birthday Tom!

Earhart’s ‘Crew Breakfast’:

This morning in crew we had a ‘family style’ cooked breakfast eating bacon butties (veggie option was Quorn sausage sarnies), a brew and a chat over the morning’s newspaper.

It was a fab experience where crew focused on their character traits and HOWLS by putting them into practice during the session.

Jobs were shared out into small groups some cooking, some making drinks and some choosing the topic for discussion. The crew worked really well together producing a yummy breakfast.

Once the food was ready we all sat down together to eat and discuss the chosen topic, which was the recent racist problems during a high profile sporting event. Everyone in crew contributed to the discussion including Mr Voltaire and Mr Sprakes who seemed to have been hovering around all morning… I wonder why?!

Last week Crew Earhart embarked on the qualifying expedition for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. In crew this morning we focused on debriefing our DofE experience, which included a discussion about our strengths and weaknesses as crew, giving appreciation and apologising when necessary and also discussing the importance of de-gunge.

This experience has helped Crew Earhart to realise the importance of working together and the power of being crew not passengers.

Crew Earhart Getting Smart

This week Crew Earhart have been looking at the importance of revision and exploring what makes effective revision. During the discussion some students in Crew Earhart showed integrity by stating that they haven’t been revising for enough for assessments.  We decided as a crew that we need to support each other with this by revising together both inside and outside of school. Alongside giving each other regular reminders and holding each other to account if this doesn’t happen.

Our first revision session was really successful. It was brilliant to see the students working together and getting smart. I was particularly impressed with Liam and Logan’s work on the respiratory system.

Crew Nightingale reflect on their HOWLs

At the end of last term in Crew we spent some time reflecting and unpicking what our HOWLs should look like. Following our return from the two week break each Crew member has set new pledges to ensure they are Getting Smart, Being Kind and Working Hard. We will use these new pledges to frame and focus our final term in Year 10

Tassomai in Crew Berger

Josh and Isaac were crew Berger’s top workers on Tassomai at the end of last term.  Both boys were regularly getting their daily goals and making great progress as a result. We’re really proud of their progress.

In crew overall, Josh has worked the hardest on Tassomai answering over 8000 questions correctly and logging more than 120 active days on the app.  Well done Josh!

We’ve had a bit of a lull over the holidays but this is also a reminder that crew should all be doing 15 minutes a day and getting their daily goals.
