Beautiful art work in X22!

Ebonie has been working hard with Mr Mably to practice techniques in art to work towards her GCSE exam.

This year’s exam theme is Events -Ebonie’s ideas surround different events to do with climate change. Take a look at the result of her hard work below – some are still in progress!

Looking at the Australian Wildfires – a work in progress.

Practising techniques to create a realistic Sun!

My personal favourite – playing with techniques to create a Galaxy effect!

Great work Ebonie, and a big thank you to Mr Mably for your support!

X22 Exam Prep for Art, Craft and Design

X22 have embarked on their Final Art GCSE exam paper and have been given 8 weeks to prepare for their 10 hour exam. This is the timetable that shows what work needs to be completed within the time period. We are on week 3 and in their sketch book they should have a mind map with their ideas and a spider diagram. By next week they should have a total of 6 drawings in different media from the work of other artists that they have researched. Could parents please check to see if they are on-track at home as they should be completing extended study every week.

As you can see they are close to completing their Art GCSE and their final exam will be after the half term.

I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting a Post-16 information evening for X22 students and their families.

Rescheduled: This will now take place in XP East on Thursday 7th November from 5 pm.

The evening will give students and families an opportunity to hear from students and staff in the Post-16 team about our offer in terms of academic studies, our partners in the Internship Academy programme and the exciting XP Diploma.

The XP Diploma combines qualifications, personal development, careers guidance and personalised pathways to prepare our students to be successful in the modern world. The programme is co-constructed by the student, parents and XP and is based around three central reflective questions:

1. What do I enjoy?
2. Who do I want to become?
3. Where do I want to go?

The Diploma is indicative of our determination to personalise the learning experience of students so that they are fully prepared to be successful in the modern world, which will be particularly pertinent to X22 students as they consider their next steps of study with XP whilst completing their work experience.

There will be additional open evenings during the course of the year, to which we will also invite external candidates for Post-16.

X21 Voluntary service

Two of our X21 Engineering students, Sonny and Junior were working hard today to help out a disabled Doncaster resident.  We’d been asked to build some raised beds on her allotment and both boys showed great resilience and craftsmanship and quality as they went about their task.  Assisted by Mr. Jackson and Mr. Green they had the job completed in one morning and we’re looking forward seeing the beds filled!

If anyone knows of any more volunteering opportunities we’d love to hear from you.

X21 Final Speaking Exam in Spanish

X21 have been working extremely hard in class and at home to prepare for their final exam. Though there are still a few weeks to go, just to let parents and carers know the dates for this final exam will be Monday 29th April – Wednesday 1st May. A timetable has been shared with students, so they already know their day and time. As discussed in class, students should be taking some time over the Easter break to revise ready for this.

Just a reminder about support sessions every Monday night for this, and that there will be an extra session on Wednesday 24th April after school as well; this will be their last chance to practise before the exams start. Good luck X21!

Arrangements for X21 during May

During May, X25-22 have a two-week break. As you know during this time there are examinations happening for Year 11 students.

All X21 students will need to attend school as usual for the whole of the week commencing Monday 20th May as there are examinations throughout this week.

In the following week, we are conscious that students will need a break and some time to do revision outside of school.

All X21 students will also be in school on Friday 31st May from 9.15am for exam preparation sessions.

It is not our intention to ask the whole cohort of X21 students into school in the rest of the week commencing 27th May. However there may be individual students for whom we put together bespoke support sessions in this week. Of course we will be mindful of the need for students to rest, and will contact families in good time if we identify a need following further assessments in the coming weeks.

Thanks as always for your continued support

X21 mock examination results

X21 students have recently completed their mock examinations.

We will be holding a mock results day at XP School Monday 4th February between 9.00am and 10.00am.

Students must arrive in school between these times to collect their results. During this time crew leaders and senior staff will be available to have informal discussions with students.

We encourage families to attend with their sons or daughters where possible. The purpose of the morning is not just to give students the results for their mocks, but also to give students an experience of what the results day in August will feel like.

Following the results day, we will invite each student and their family into school during the weeks commencing 11th and 18th February for a formal individual ‘results conference’.

In attendance at each student’s results conference will be their family, crew leader and other staff where appropriate. During this conference students will present their reflection on their results, identifying strengths and gaps in knowledge. Each student will then agree a set of targets and a plan with their crew leader and family. Crew leaders will also be able to direct parents and family members to workshops in the following week (see below).

In the week commencing 25th February, lead teachers for core subjects will be running workshops for parents and family members after school in the evening. In these workshops, parents and family members will be given specific advice on how to support their son or daughter. All family members are welcome at any of these workshops. However, during the results conferences in the prior weeks crew leaders will give advice on which specific workshops we would like families to attend.

X21 Spanish Support Sessions

Every Monday from 3.20 – 4.20 in X08 there will be a support session for any student wishing to attend, starting the first Monday back and running until Christmas. The sessions will focus on grammar and use of language, and each week’s content will be posted from now on using googleclassroom. During the first session we will revisit the present tense. All are welcome!
