Today X28 started their immersion into their new year 8 expedition...
So far students have been grappling with; poetry, conducted acts of kindness and evaluated creation stories .. I wonder what all this has in common?

C28 have safely set off from Ullswater! We aim to reach School for approximately 3.30-4pm. We will keep you posted with updates.
On Tuesday the 19th of July, Year 7 XP students would like to invite you to their Presentation of Learning. This presentation is the final one for year 7 until their next one in year 8! It is a great opportunity to see all the learning your child has done during their expedition “What a Wonderful World”. This will start at 4pm and last until approximately 5pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
As part of their final product year 7 have been working hard and offering one another Kind, Specific and Helpful critique of their nature poems! Students in C28 have been working tremendously hard on these, grappling with poetic devices and becoming true XP Poets! Fantastic work!
On Wednesday the 13th of July, XP year 7 students will be going on fieldwork to the nature reserve Potteric Carr in Doncaster. This will take place within school hours; students need to be on time for crew to register as normal and they will be back for a debrief during session 5.
Students will be lead by an expert lead into the different species’ habitats that exist in Potteric Carr. We will have the opportunity to explore these habitats, and see the species we have been researching in person. We will study how these species have adapted to suit their environment, this will be followed with lots of time for questions. We should finish our morning with a guided meditation session before we head back on the bus to debrief our day.
As we have been studying about animal habitats during our current expedition this is a great opportunity for X28. I have attached a kit list here to help students prepare for the day and weather. Any questions please contact myself or your child’s crew leader.
X28 have been working hard to create some beautiful bug houses and things are really starting to come together. Tune in next week for an update.
The X28 Year 7 Spanish presentation of learning will take place on Wednesday 13th July starting at 5:00 pm and finishing at 6:00 pm. The students will presenting work from their Spanish expedition. During this expedition the students have learned how to talk about themselves, their local area, their families and friends, and their life at school.
Students will be expected to stay on site until the presentation starts, and parents should come to reception and sign in. The presentation will be held in the heart of XP school.
A further reminder will be published closer to the event.
On Friday afternoon, Crew Darling embarked on a walk to the Lake. This was a reward for their fantastic improvement in their HOWLS this term!
This adventure involved football, refreshing water fights and hill top chats, with a lovely debrief at the end. Followed by a community meeting. Crew really enjoyed this and clearly immersed themselves with the outside world! So much so, they wanted to document their journey in this blog post!

During crew time, Crew Darling (EWI) have been looking at what our HOWLS really mean to us! Crew split into three groups, focusing on working hard, getting smart and being kind.. this was then followed with a fantastic presentation to the rest of crew, sharing their thoughts and ideas about HOWLS and how they can be the best version of themselves going forward!
On a beautiful Friday afternoon, Crew Darling and Crew AJA spent some time reflecting and engaging with an important question for us at XP – “What is Crew?”
In a solo experience, we ask our students to spend time focusing on themselves and the natural world around them. For our first solo in school, we sat in a circle facing outwards thinking about what crew meant to us. For about half an hour all we could hear was the sounds of nature and of our community as others went about their busy lives. Some of us chose to write or draw our ideas, while others simply thought about the question or took the time to unwind from the stresses and anxieties of the working week.
At the end of the solo students chose to share their ideas about what crew meant to them. We saw beautiful drawings and heard thoughts about compassion, integrity and kindness.
It was a real privilege to spend time together in this way, and a great reminder that what we do at XP is very special.
