A Spot of Adventuring…

Lockdown 3.0…

If the challenges of school were not enough then remote learning would make it even harder.Ā  Crew King, like the rest of their peers faced a new year full of challenges.

Globally, everything has stopped. Projects have been delayed, workplaces closed and schools shut down. The world seems to have ground to a halt because of the coronavirus. However, students continue their education through online learning and via video calls with their teachers and on the whole this has been executed very well by X24 and particularly Crew King.

“When life gets tough and you’re faced with defeat, remember somewhere in the world a flower is popping through the concrete.”

Challenging Times

I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate all of my crew and their amazing families for the support and determination that they continue to show during this difficult and challenging time.Ā  I have exchange frequent emails, phone calls and one to ones with students and their families in order to support where I can.Ā  I want my Crew to know that I am here for them. Keep doing what you’re doing.Ā  Keep attending, staying safe, working hard, getting smart and being kind. This is what makes us crew and stand apart from the crowd.

Mental Health Awareness Week

There has never been a time where wellbeing was at the forefront of people’s minds.Ā  With everyone being locked away and attached to their laptops or tablets, it was important this week that we spent some time considering the importance of mental health and wellbeing in general.

In Crew, we have and will continue to, take the time to communicate and support each other. We will continue to focus on the importance of sharing our stories and motivating each other when we feel like it’s just another monotonous day.Ā  This week in order to break the routine we spent an hour on Friday taking time to go outside and observe nature.Ā  It was incredible to receive photographs, which feature in this blog, from Crew members who walked their dog, kicked a football around or simply went out into the garden just to get some fresh air. Please continue to encourage Crew King to enjoy time away from technology and the beauties of nature.Ā  Sometimes we all need to remember that the simple things in life can make use feel so much better.

Green Shoots

So spring is on its way and somehow things are looking up… For now we remain online learning but…we are crew and until our return into schoolĀ  we will continue to work hard and get smart. Please remember that I am there for all Crew mates and their families.

I would like to praise all of Crew King for their photos and inspiration to write this blog. Thank you for keeping my spirits up.

Until next time… Stay strong and stay safe.

Happy CREW Year!

What a start to 2021!

Welcome back, Crew Maceven if it is online for now!

I canā€™t even begin to express how happy I am that crew Macmillan have had an absolutely wonderful start to the year! Aside from a couple of internet issues, youā€™ve all achieved 100% attendance in sessions, and crew – INCREDIBLE. A huge thank you from me, because that means youā€™re engaged and learning exactly what you need to be during these difficult times. It just proves how awesome you lot are!

The last couple of weeks have highlighted just how resilient our students (and staff!) are, and everyone just seems to have stepped it up a gear, going above and beyond for each other whilst weā€™re limited to home learning. On Monday this week, Crew took part in Mindful Mondays, and for a bit of positivity, i asked Crew to find a quote that made them smile. This could be for a number of reasons, but positivity breeds positivity, and we found it was a brilliant way to kick our week off. I was very impressed with the maturity of Crew during this task, and take a look for yourselves at some of the quotes they picked out:

Return of the MC…. (Miss Cocliff!)

Tomorrow is FINALLY the day I can return to work after having to self isolate for 8 days; the longest Iā€™ve been away from Crew!

As a crew, we would like to say a HUGE thank you to Mrs Johnson for stepping in whilst I joined Crew on hangout from home. And a personal thank you to Charlie – who has made sure Iā€™m able to join crew, organised everything that needs organising, and has just in general been a great deputy crew leader. I wasnā€™t joking about getting you a badge! šŸ˜‰

It seems Crew Macmillan have still been flying the flag around school whilst Iā€™ve been working from home, which is evidenced by the data on the praise form. Take a look at our figures so far – Iā€™m so glad youā€™ve carried on being just as amazing, you have all done me, yourselves, and crew really proud!

Alfie, 60 praise entries is unbelievable. Frankie, 50!? INSANE. The fact that we have EVERYONE in crew with over 15 praise entries blows my mind – remember, praises are entered when students go above and beyond expectations in sessions, whether that relates to working hard, getting smart, being kind, or compassionate, or respectful, or showing brilliant craftsmanship and quality; it does get noticed! Letā€™s make it our mission for ALL of Crew to reach at least 25 praise entries by Christmas!

I canā€™t wait to be back with crew and give you more updates in the upcoming couple of weeks.

Remember this Friday and Monday (27th and 30th November) are staff days, so students wonā€™t be in school; crew, make sure youā€™re caught up on any outstanding work; our focus as a crew is going to be on handing in all extended study on time!

Keep working hard. Youā€™re incredible humans!

Crew Webb HOWLing on Flexible Friday

Crew Webb showed their habits of work and learning during our Duke of Edinburgh session this week by working on their outdoor first aid skills. Students worked in teams to examine case studies of outdoor scenarios that they might face in future Duke of Edinburgh expeditions once Covid restrictions change. Once Crew Webb worked through the case studies, they prepared presentations demonstrating the steps they would take to provide first aid in each case. Great teamwork and beautiful work on a Friday afternoon!

Superstars in Crew Macmillan – Term 1!

…we’ve only gone and done it! We’veĀ finallyĀ reached the end of the first term in what has been one of the most weird, unpredictable times that we’ve experienced.

I wanted to end this term on a positive, and so i hope this post does Crew Mac some form of justice!

Throughout this term, Crew Macmillan have worked together on a number of different tasks and topics. We’ve learned about how stress can affect us and our sleep; and how sleep (or lack of) can affect us too! We’ve completed our Star Reader tests to find out our reading ages; and started a book club on Tuesdays, reading Pay It Forward; something we, as a crew, aspire to do this year. [check out these concentration faces!!]

We’ve laughed, cried, and everything in-between. Crew really have been incredible this term – thank you, guys!

Here are crew Macmillan working hard; and as a team, to learn about stress!

Possibly my favourite moments of this term, though, have revolved around some of the incredible work crew Macmillan have produced. As a learning coach in Y11, it’s not often i get to see their amazing work – so i love it when i do!! Can you BELIEVE this is aĀ drawing that Alfie has done as an artist study?! I thought it was a photo!

Courtney has also been working hard in Art: check out this brilliant viewfinder study she was working on. Some great tonal work and shading!

In 3D Art, students have been looking at steampunk style face masks; and there are some incredible examples. I was really impressed by Archie’s, and Joe’s attempts to create one!

I also wanted to highlight thisĀ fantasticĀ piece of work done by Ricki. I don’t think i’ve ever seen a poetry analysis so detailed. Ricki led a bit of the session, along with Jayden. The amount of writing on this piece of paper is astounding!!

And finally this term, crew have been working on going above & beyond, and trying to beat the other Y10 crews on praise. I set them a secret mission, to get the most entries on the praise form as a crew. We’ve an average ofĀ 24.7 praise entries in Crew Macmillan; WOW!

VACCINATION AND IMMUNISATION

The last few months have been an exceptionally challenging time for both schools and health services, This has had an effect on students receiving their vaccinations and immunisations at school.Ā  As you will be aware the school age vaccination programme was suspended at the beginning of the outbreak leaving a large number of students outstanding vaccinations.

There is a plan of recovery to ensure that all these students are caught up by the end of August 2021, Please see the dates below that are scheduled in for the 20/21 academic year in order to deliver vaccinations to the eligible students at XP / XP East School.

Crew Webb – A crackin’ start to a new term!

After such a long time away from school, the start of the new term means a new start for Crew Webb! We have two new Crew leaders and a new Crew member – welcome Eleanor! Mrs. Collinson and I are Crew Leaders this year for Crew Webb, and we’re delighted with the way that Crew Webb have settled back into school, despite all-new routines and the demands of being in Year 10.

Ā
We have set our academic pledges for the year, and we have begun to discuss ideas around how we can continue to support our Crew charity. Mrs. Collinson is a new Crew Leader, and she has been made to feel very welcome by Crew Webb. We’re spending some time reconnecting, sharing stories, and getting to know one another after spending so much time apart. We shared our strengths and weaknesses as a Crew, and talked about what we can do to make Year 10 Crew Webb’s best year yet.
Ā
X24 have madeĀ a great start to 2020/2021, and Crew Webb are embracing all the changes to routines, teachers, and classes. There have been wonderful examples of honesty, integrity, HOWLS, and beautiful work. Mrs. Collinson and I are looking forward to being a part of Crew Webb’s journey through the academic year. There is so much to look forward to!

Return of the Mac[millan]

Welcome to Year 10, Crew!

What a start to year 10 it’s been, too! Members of Crew Macmillan have returned to school after such an uncertain time and have done so really positively, coming back in like they’d never been away – even if most of them are about a foot[and a half] taller!

Last week we spent our first day together in crew and looked at coming back stronger. We looked at how we can keep ourselves and each other safe when back in school. Thursday saw us straight back into sessions, where teachers have been praising Crew Mac!

We’ve also spent some time together thinking about pledges, and what we can do in crew to make sure Y10 goes smoothly – and spoke about how we can hold each other to account!

I’m hearing really positive feedback from staff about how Crew Mac are getting on in sessions. I’m really hoping we can keep this up – along with good attendance, good HoWLs and good focus will mean that every member of crew succeeds this year! (Did i mention that we’re currently joint #1 for attendance, too? šŸ˜‰ )

I’ve spoken before about how I am so proud of what Crew have achieved over lockdown, and it’s lovely to see that continue with their almost flawless return to school – Ricki has even branched out and learned to cook more (he eats things now that are not chicken nuggets!!!) – Frankie is well on her way to her first book being written, and Heather is ready for GBBO!

Keep doing what you’re doing, keep working hard, getting smart, and being kind.

I’ll leave you with this, at the start of your Y10 journey…

X24 Fundraising

As previously posted. This summer, X24 are taking part in fundraising for the toilet twinning scheme by walking 2 miles with 4 litres of fluid on their back, just a portion of what those we are trying to help do on a daily basis. Here is evidence from one students walk:

This is an opportunity to provide support for countries who don’t have the simple facility to wash their hands, at a time when hand washing is vital. To support please donate money via this link.
