X24 have been giving kind, specific and helpful peer critiques to each other to make improvements to create beautiful work.
They have been looking at lino cuts by an artist called Karl Schmidt. They have chosen two different designs to produce two A3 designs:
This evening 25 of our X23 students shared their Barcelona Celebration of Learning with their parents and carers. Uniquely, this is the only such school event held entirely in Spanish, and is the result of our four day visit to Spain’s iconic second city.

Guests were then invited to view our X23 students’ work journals, showing sketches of Gaudí’s artistic and architectural creations that were completed as we toured the Parc Guell.

X23 have had 4 data collecting fieldwork events so far and there last one is next week. They are continually becoming self led as they are gaining expertise in the practice. This weeks visit to grove gardens was wonderful, all participants worked hard to collectively gather the data needed. Students were able to start straight away with collecting data, which they will then be able to analyse and explain how biodiverse Doncaster is and what can be done to improve this (if necessary).
We woke up early on Tuesday ready for a productive day in the beautiful city of Barcelona. After a big breakfast we headed off on the metro to meet our tour guide Theo. During our walking tour of the city centre, Theo showed us a range of beautiful buildings and explained the ideas, history and thinking behind the architecture of Antoni Gaudí and others. We learned that St George is a significant figure in Barcelona and features heavily in the decoration and extravagant carvings adorning many of the buildings in the centre. The tour came to a close at the awe inspiring Sagrada Família.
After grabbing some lunch and quenching our thirst our travel manager Sunni organised for us to continue our work on Gaudí by visiting his house and the magnificent Park Güell. This allowed the students to take some quiet time to reflect and draw their surroundings in their journals.
Following this we made our way back down hundreds of steps, several hills and metro stops before finally reaching the beach and getting our first close up view of the Mediterranean. Here we were able to enjoy some quality time together, eating ice creams, playing football, building sand castles and in the case of Ethan, being buried in sand.
After an eventful day it was time to dust the sand off our feet and head back to hostel to shower off the suncream and get some well earned rest.
X23 have begun their series of fieldwork research visits to areas in the Doncaster area to evaluate biodiversity. X23 are currently working on expedition 9.4 Bioshock and have the guiding questions: ‘Has biodiversity in Doncaster changed for the better or the worse?’ and ‘What are nature’s rights?’
We’ll be visiting a new site each week for the next four weeks before students will begin writing a formal report to share with the council.
This morning during Crew time, Earhart joint with Crew Rosa Parks to listen to them read. It was brilliant to see students of different ages supporting each other in getting smart.

Skipper’s POL will be held on the 27th March

The presentation will start at 17:30 at XP school. Students will be delivering a lecture about the structure of the periodic table, the atomic structure, atomic size and chemical reactions. This is a vital part of the expedition for students as it allows them to express their learning and understanding from the expedition.
Students in Years C21 and C22 have the ongoing compulsory extended study of 10 minutes of daily quizzing on the Tassomai science learning programme. This system works to develop students retention and recall of key science facts and concepts by daily quizzing and interleaved retrieval practice. Tassomai done for a least 10 minutes per day will be massively important in ensuring students are GCSE ready. It is only effective when done little and often over the time until GCSE examinations. It is ineffective when not done and left until before exams.
We have been using Tassomai with students in since Christmas and have an expectation that it is done on a daily basis. However, there have been perhaps a significant number of students who have not used the program for many days and continue to do this sporadically despite reminders from members of staff.
We have therefore decided that students who have missed two days or more of quizzing in a week will attend a compulsory extended study session to catch up. Progress will be checked on a Friday and those students who need to then attend compulsory extended study will then do so on the following Thursday. We would greatly appreciate it if parents could give students a nudge to check whether Tassomai has been completed.

Fieldwork to the York Dungeons will be on Monday 12th March for both Admiral and Skipper. The coach will be leaving promptly at 8.30am and students will require a packed lunch for the visit. Students should wrap up warm and wear comfortable shoes becasue as part of the fieldwork experience we will spend some of the time outside. We intend to arrive back for 3.30, traffic depending.
