X25 Presentation of Learning @CAST Theatre

Last term students in X25 studied the expedition entitled ‘Should I stay or should I go?’ with the guiding question of ‘Why should we care about Migration?’

Our final product for this expedition is a documentary that explains our answer to this question. The first screening of this documentary will shown at X25 Presentation of Learning next Monday 20th January at 5.30pm at Cast theatre, Doncaster.

Every student will be expected to attend on Monday with one ticket for one adult companion. Unfortunately, as the theatre has a full capacity of 130 people, students are unable to invite more than one person. Students need to make their own way to and from CAST theatre as transport will not be provided.

Therefore to allow students to showcase their hard work to more relatives/friends we are putting on another screening at XP EAST on Thursday 23rd January at 4.30pm.

Please arrive in enough time to be seated before the screening begins.

We look forward to sharing our expedition with you.

X25 Admiral – Craftsmanship and Quality

In X25 we have been focusing on the Craftsmanship and Quality of our work. In the first session of our immersion we explored the historical concept of change and continuity and what factors affect change. Students worked really hard in all three Humanities sessions to create several note catchers that we will keep referring back to throughout the expedition.

I could of taken a photo of any students work as they were all beautiful, however Grace and Declan’s work stood out.

Well done Admiral, Keep this up and your books will look amazing by the end of the expedition.

X26 and X25 Book Club!

If we get crew right we get everything right!

Crews in Year 7 and 8 have certainly been working hard and getting crew right during Friday book club. It was brilliant to see students sharing reading and discussing their crew book together.

What a brilliant way to end a week!

X25 Students working with the Conversation Club

Over the past two weeks students in X25 have been working with the Conversation Club.  A charity based in Doncaster that offers support to refugees and asylum seekers.  We have taken part in workshops about Migration and on Monday we had the privilege of meeting and interviewing people who are currently seeking asylum in Doncaster. Their stories gave us a real insight into the realities of migration and made us realise that the community of Doncaster can do more to help.

Our task now in X25 is to come up with ways we can help and put them into practice! After all… above all else is compassion!

Book Club and laughter.

Crew Rosa Parks have a regular book club now on a Friday afternoon. We are reading My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece by Annabel Pitcher a book which has won awards and has many great reviews. Crew have embraced these sessions and wholeheartedly join in with reading out loud to each other.

Before we began our reading this week we spent some time using our imagination to make up our own stories which led to hilarious results and a great deal of laughter. As the saying goes…..”A good laugh is sunshine in the house”.

X25 The Big Reveal

This week X25 have been working hard on their immersion for their new expedition. It has been an action packed week, starting with learning about film making with our expert Geoff Hewitt, to painting the opening of Anchor text, grappling with a map of migration and completing gallery walks. The week ended with the unveiling of the expedition and all it’s components.

So now, without further ado, our title of the expedition is Should I stay or should I go? with the guiding question:

Why should we care about Migration?

Over the next 14 weeks our students in X25 will be studying this expedition and working towards our final product which is to make a documentary about the topic of Migration.

This is going to be a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with the community and I can’t wait to see what they will produce.
