X27 Ethics – Piecing together the puzzle

Over the past few lessons X27 have been grappling with GCSE content regarding Christian Belief’s about the Creation story. We have embedded this further by splitting into groups and producing a jigsaw piece which symbolises one of the 7 days of creation.

Students then presented their thoughts in their groups regarding which day they think is most important. A fantastic discussion had by all! Well done for working hard Ethics!

X27 HUMS

We have started to read our anchor text ’Lord of the Flies’ in our HUMAN sessions. All the classes have been very interested in the use of the conch shell and how the boys in the story established leadership. As students have been so engaged in this text the work that has been produced so far is excellent. Below are a few examples of some excellent quality and craftsmanship, although we could have probably photographed every book in the class!

C27 Fieldwork on Thursday 8th September

As part of their immersion, C27 are going on fieldwork to Sheffield to visit Park Hill and the School of Architecture at the University of Sheffield.

We will be departing at around 9:15AM and returning for approximately 4PM. Students should arrive at the usual time in the morning but please note the later finishing time. We will keep you updated on the day about a more accurate time for our return. Students will need to bring a packed lunch unless they access free school meals, in which case school will provide one for them. Students will need to dress appropriately and in a waterproof coat and warm layers, as we will be walking around Sheffield at points of the day. If you have any questions about the day, feel free to contact me at [email protected]

X27 Crew Day 15th July

As you are all aware, crew forms the foundation of everything we do at XP. Strong crew relationships are essential to supporting students to become the best versions of themselves. Quite simply:

if we get crew right, we get everything right

At key points each year, we plan activities to refresh and revitalise crew to ensure we give students and their crew leaders the opportunity to bond together to make their relationships even stronger.

With this in mind, I am pleased to inform you that we have arranged a crew day for students in X27 on Friday 15th July at The Tournament Ground.  A selection of the following activities based on individual crew needs:

  • Pioneering
  • Bush craft
  • Team building
  • Air rifle
  • Combat archery
  • Archery
  • Axe throwing.

Each crew will be participating in 4 activities followed by a final whole year group activity at the end of the day. This will be followed by a BBQ then a final period for quiet contemplation of our overarching question

“What is my vision for the best version of myself and how can I achieve this?”

Students will need to bring:

  • A packed lunch. If your child receives a free school meal we will provide this. Please reply to this email to order your dinner.
  • Any medication they require, including inhalers.
  • Sun cream
  • Sun hat
  • Water bottle

Students will need to be in school at 8am. We will be leaving school at 8:30am and will return to school at approximately 4:30pm. We will update you if we are delayed due to traffic.

If you require any further information regarding this please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your child’s crew leader. As this visit is part of our crew curriculum, all students will take part in the visit.

X27 Local walk

X27 will be participating in a local walk on Thursday morning around Doncaster.

We will be leaving school at 9:15 and arriving back at 12:20. If your child requires any medical equipment for a lengthy walk, please ensure they hand this in to the teacher on the morning.

The purpose of this is to find an A-Z of positive things happening in Doncaster as part of our product! if you have any questions please email Miss Ibbotson.

Thanks

Crew Goodall’s Flower Garden

Last term we planted some spring bulbs in our planter and this week we went out to see how they were doing. Roxy’s crocuses have started to appear and a few more look like they will be out soon!

Well done to all crew members who did their SLCs this week. A lot of them worked really hard and were able to explain their work from year 8 and their howls with maturity. Many pledges were made, which we will be continuing to discuss regularly and support each other.

We also had a new crew member joining us this week, welcome to Phoebe!

Hope you all have a lovely half term holiday.
