This week in Crew Earhart…

This week in Crew Earhart we have been focusing on seeking out the positives of strange difficult time in our lives. The check in this week was “What are you most looking forward to when the lockdown restrictions are lifted?” A challenging question, students responses were “to go to nandos” or “see my friends again” or “see all my family again.” It is certainly times like these that make you realise what is really important in life.

We also spent time looking at the expedition work tracker and challenging each other for why work has not been completed and praising those who have been working really hard. (Charlotte, Scarlett, Lois, Tyler)  Many students in our crew have struggled to get into any sort of routine or to complete work. We are now really trying to work on this. As Mr Voltaire said in our hangout “It’s not important as such what you haven’t completed it’s about keeping up now with the new expedition” This reminded me of the C.S.Lewis quotation:

This is a really important message for students in our crew who are getting closer to entering Year 11, a very crucial year for them all.  A year we which will be made easier by being crew and supporting each other. So let’s get motivated Crew and “change the ending!”

Crew need to start taking some tips and support from our own Charlotte Beard who is absolutely smashing it at the minute! Handing in work on time and to a exceptional standard. Well done Charlotte, we are very proud of you.

Alongside completing work, Crew Earhart have been enjoying having time to themselves. Students have been going on walks, bike riding, playing football etc. Check out the photos the students took of what they have been doing!

Also impressive work by Mills for her GCSE coursework.

See you all on Friday at 2pm! This time can we make sure that we all put our cameras on and turn off any distractions, getting together as a crew is really important… so be present!

Crew Earhart Friday Catch-up!

It was lovely to catch up with Crew Earhart today after the Easter break. Last time we did a google hangout I set crew the challenge to have a go a baking something and it appears that Earhart smashed this challenge! From brownies, to chocolate easter cake to rice crispy buns, to cookies, we made it all. If only we were able to taste some of these delights in person!

We also spent time playing a game of ‘list it’ and discussing our latest Netflix addictions of which Tiger King was a big talking point! (if you have seen it, you will understand why).

It was brilliant to have Logan with us this week! Next week it would be great to have Bobby and Lois with us as you were missed.

I am already looking forward to seeing your faces next week.

Keep working hard… especially you Liam 🙂

Read all about it: Crew Earhart Checks In

It was great to catch up with Crew Earhart this afternoon for our weekly check-in. Lovely to see most faces in Crew with just three students not able to make it. Mrs Robinson and I are really pleased with how Crew Earhart are adjusting to the new ways of working and the challenges we’re all facing and it was great to see such happy and smiling faces. It certainly did us good to catch up with this lot and we hope it did for our students too.

Today, we chatted, checked in and played some games. For a little while, we did nothing, but we did nothing together! Looking forward to next week, Miss Robinson has set us all the challenge of baking something and bringing it to show in our hangout. I’ll be attempting my personal favourite; a lemon drizzle cake. Charlotte also has the great idea of us all learning to ‘shuffle’ dance too, which she is going to lead on next week!

In other news, here is Tyler. Still doing his bit for the community. Tyler, our own key worker, has not only kept up his paper round but has more than doubled his workload to make sure that people who can’t get out still get their daily news update and connection to the world. Well done, Tyler, keep it up. We’re all proud of you!

Hawking Crew

Hawking Crew is coping well with their new adjustment to working from home.  The picture above is of some of their happy faces during one of our crew sessions.  A big shout out to those in Hawking crew who have received praise from their expeditions teachers in the learning they have submitted over the last two weeks.  Well done Evan, Milla, Ashley, Jack, Kate, Marcus and Coen.  Keep smiling and keep your daily routine going.

Crew EJN out litter picking this morning

Crew EJN were on ‘Clean Up’ this morning. We were lucky with the weather – even though it was cold and fresh, the sun was shining (and I think it woke them all up a bit!)

They were a little shocked at just how much litter had found its way onto the school grounds from the car park.

Good work crew EJN! A great way to be stewards of your school!

A big thankyou to everyone who donated!

Thankyou to everyone who donated money on Friday and wore their Christmas jumpers! It was lovely to see so many happy, smiley faces.

XP raised a total of £147.20.

This is a fantastic amount which will be sent to ‘Save the Children’ so it can be used to help children build a better future.

Crew EJN working on their teamwork

Crew EJN discussed what they thought good teamwork looked like then put this into action whilst playing benchball to burn off some of their energy!

We played against crew HMI over at XPE and are going to organise a re-match where we will meet again and test our teamwork within crew!

Our crew circled up half way through the game to discuss how they could change their tactics to win. They took it in turns to voice their ideas. Harrison was a natural leader who took the lead.

It was brilliant for our crew to spend some time outside the classroom and having fun whilst learning about eachother and developing our skills. Well done crew!

It’s been a busy week for crew EJN. We have re-visited the guiding question from our outward bound adventure in Wales ‘What is Crew?’ and discussed what this looks like now we are back at school.

We had a whip around during Thursday’s crew of any appreciations, apologies or stands from the week and decided which ones to take through to our whole school community meeting on Friday.

Crew EJN have also started reading ‘Kits Wilderness’ by David Almond for our book club and creating bookmarks.

Crew Nightingale are already rising to the challenge of this crucial academic year. Students have reflected on their mock exams and created themselves new revision timetables for the first half term. These have been based on the areas from their mock exams they have identified as needing to improve.  It has been really pleasing to see the quality and integrity of their reflections as well as the targets they have set. While the mornings this week have focused on academic growth our afternoons have looked at character growth and how we can work as a Crew to achieve and succeed. Building on successes at Sports Day, Crew have built upon on these skills – listening to each other, communicating effectively and working with each other- I have been really impressed with the conversations held and actions they have taken.  I look forward to hearing Crew share their reflections during our upcoming SLCs. More on this to follow!
