Crew Stan Lee Pledges

This morning, Crew Stan Lee have been doing some excellent work on their Crew pledges.

Crew pledges are a promise you make to perform an action such as getting to Crew on time or pledging to help other students. The rest of Crew hold these pledges to account and challenge Crewmates who do not follow the pledges they make and ensure they follow them to the best of their ability. Students who follow their pledges are often noticed and praised by their peers as well as their Crew Leader.

Careers Fair

As part of National Careers Week, Year 10 and XP16 have a fantastic opportunity on Thursday 10th March to attend Doncaster Racecourse, who are hosting a Careers Fair with stalls from a variety of industries and Post 16 education providers and universities. The students will be leaving school for the afternoon and will be back in time for the end of the day. This will introduce them to the opportunities available in Doncaster as they prepare for their GCSEs next year and their next steps in their academic journey.

War landscapes in the style of Van Gogh

Y10 (X25/E25) have been looking at war landscapes for their expedition this term with the guiding question “are we really free to choose?”

This task fell in time perfectly for remembrance day (11/11/21) where the students finished off their Van Gogh samples.

I’m incredibly proud of their work and their efforts with this technique. Well done year 10!!!

Vaccination – Covid Vaccine Forms

12-15 year olds will be offered the vaccine via the school-based programme.

Students in Years 10 and Year 11 have been given their consent forms. Check with your son/daughter that they have taken their form. The school vaccination nurses are in school on 10th November. If your son/daughter are currently in year 8 and 9 and did not attend school on their designated covid vaccine day and so missed their chance, then you can fill in the consent form and return to the school office to be added to the list. Please read the letter that goes with consenting and return the consent form to the school office by the end of this week (15th October 2021).  (A reminder if any student has tested positive for Covid 30 days before the vaccine date they cannot have the covid vaccine).

New College Taster Day Monday 27th September

Today again Scott Faulkner from New College delivered a presentation to our year 10&11 cohort.  I can now confirm that there is an opportunity for all our C24 & C25 students from both schools to attend the NCD taster day on the 27th September.
Could all students complete the form below for the taster day at New College on Monday 27th September. They need to choose 3 options and then a 4th standby. This information needs to be completed by Monday and prospectuses have been shared. The links to the college for both taster day  options and the online prospectus are below.
Please encourage your students to choose sessions they think they will enjoy or are intrigued by rather than in friendship groups, this is an important opportunity to try out before they enrol. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me. Crew Leaders will also be able to support and advise.
On the day we will be picked up by a coach at XP schools and taken to New College, we need to ensure all students leave from XP. Lunch is provided by college which I am excited about. They will attend 3 sessions and return to school by the usual finish time. 

X25, How can we as Crew, prepare ourselves for the next climb?

X25 have had a great first week back and have really grappled with our guiding question.

‘How can we as Crew, prepare ourselves for the next climb?’

Our biggest challenge was the walk starting at Monsal Head in the Peak District. Students walked 6 miles in preparation for their Duke of Edinburgh expedition. It was a fantastic day for all and it really defined what it means to be crew.

And the winner is…..Save The Children!

Our C25 / Year 9 GCSE Spanish students have been working hard to promote a charity fundraising initiative in aid of Save The Children, as part of our current work on Fair Trade, social equity and child poverty in Latin America. This involved students producing and displaying posters in both schools, and visiting Crew rooms to invite their peers to guess the number of Fair Trade chocolates in a jar. At £1.00 a go, the winner with the closest guess to the actual number of chocolates would get to keep them and the jar.

This morning we can reveal that Mrs Cunningham and Crew Rosa won the chocolates in XP School, and Mrs Newrick correctly guessed that there were 99 chocolates in XP East’s jar. As a result of our students’ activism, they helped towards fulfilling the volunteering element of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, but more importantly (and with the odd extra donation) they raised a total of £122.55 for Save The Children.

A huge appreciation goes to C25 students and Crew Leaders for helping to raise a three figure sum for charity.

Y9 X25 Bubble Closure Timetable Update

As we have unfortunately had a positive Covid test in X25 Year 9 we will be moving to online learning from this afternoon (Tuesday 13th April). We have chosen this timetable as it reflects the online provision that was successful during our last period of distance learning. After speaking with students this morning we have adapted the timetable to mitigate the risks of screen fatigue. Therefore, the students will only do four out of the five sessions providing them with an extended lunch break. 

Please see the timetable below that outlines the times for each session. The teacher taking the session will send out the hangout link and post it on Google Classroom. We look forward to seeing all our students online this afternoon.  Thank you for your continued support.

Y9 Student of the Week

Year 9 student of the week goes to Luke in Crew Stan Lee.

Luke you have been nominated by myself and several of your teachers for working so hard this week and term in sessions and preparing for your Passage Presentation.

We have been really impressed with your contributions during online sessions, your improved attendance online compared to the previous lockdown and the mature manner in which you have prepared yourself for Passage.

Mrs Pullham has expressed how proud she is of you and how impressed she is with your attitude to learning. I am looking forward to being a part of your Passage Presentation and hearing you reflect on your journey through XP.

It won’t be long before we return to school. Let’s keep up this impressive attitude to learning when we return to school. It will have a significant impact on your HOWLS and academic grades if you continue the way you have started this term.
