X25 DofE Fridays-Skill

We hope everyone has had a great half term and ready for the next term. As part of the students Duke of Edinburgh silver award they will be completing an hour towards their skill award on Friday afternoons. At the end of last term students chose which skill they wanted to complete. Students have chosen between sewing, beauty and board games.

We have a couple of board games in school but would be great if you have any at home that we can borrow for students to make the most of this time.

We are really looking forward to the students completing their DofE.

Thanks

X25 crew leaders.

Students today and tomorrow who hold prescribed medication at school will be handed back their medication.  Students who require medication to be taken at school in the new term 2021/22 will be required to fill in the medication form.

The Google form is required to be filled in and then press send.  This then gives staff consent to administer medication and for it to be kept on school premises.

Please ensure Inhalers, Epi-pens and other prescribed medications are sent into school with the child’s name and expiry date clearly visible.

Physical Friday, X25 Duke of Edinburgh Award

X25 took part in a selection of sports activities on Friday afternoon which will contribute towards their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. Students had to pick from futsal, rounders or a 5km walk/run. The weather stayed nice and dry with even a bit of sunshine coming through the clouds.

All the students were amazing and everyone took part in something. It was great to see on a Friday afternoon.

Crew Tomlinson – See you in year 10!

It has been another busy couple of weeks for Crew Tomlinson. Crew are working really hard on their Passage presentations, which I can’t wait for them to present to show their hard work to parents, staff and guest panellists.

Today’s check in question for crew was ‘If you could time travel where would you go?’. We had some brilliant responses with some crew wanting to transport forward a few years to when things are back to a bit more normality and able to enjoy football etc again while others wanted to go back in time. They wanted to rewind for a variety of reasons including because they have heard what a brilliant time period the 80s and 90s was and want to see what it was like and somebody wanting to experience the Victorian Era.

Today is my last day with crew this year, as I am on Maternity leave until September and I wanted to say how proud I am of crew. They are working so hard in these difficult times. Their attendance on hangouts is fantastic and crew are contributing some fantastic points to discussions, particularly in Wise Wednesday sessions. So thanks crew for all your hard work!

I will really miss crew for the remainder of the year and can’t wait to be back to continue their XP journey with crew and see what year 10 brings for them. Time really does fly!

Thanks for all your hard work crew! Please keep it up for the rest of the year and I will see you in September.

Crew Tomlinson – New year, Great start!

Last week Crew made a fantastic start to 2021. It was always going to be different with working from home however crew have started the year absolutely flying. Crew have had fantastic attendance and made brilliant contributions on hangouts.

Last week we had a check in looking at any new years resolutions people had, which included more exercise, eating healthier and becoming more organised.

Fran also shared a lovely picture of her cute dog who joined her family over the Christmas period, who I think it gorgeous!

Crew are also working hard on their passage preparation- reflecting over the last 2 1/2 years they have studied at XP. Crew are working really hard, particularly well done to Fran and Nada who have made some great progress on their script over the last week. Remember crew the hard work will pay off.

Looking forward to seeing what great work you produce this week and again a massive Well done with all your efforts in this challenging time.

Mrs Burnitt

X25 Y9 Bubble Closure Timetable

Following the closure of our Y9/X25 bubble, we will now move to an online educational provision as shown below – this has proved to be highly effective in supporting students in other year bubble closures as engagement rates have regularly been above 95%.

Here is our protocol for online learning:

  • all Crew sessions and lessons will take place LIVE via Google Hangout and the timetable is highlighted below.
  • students will receive input from teachers and have time to complete activities on Google Classroom.
  • students are registered in Crew (8.30am), at the beginning of the morning session (9.15am) and afternoon session (1.15pm).
  • all students are expected to join each session.  If a student is absent, Crew Leaders will contact home to ascertain the reason why. If a student is unable to join a session, for example, they are unwell, we ask parents to please contact the office.
  • Crew Leaders and Expedition teachers will send Google Hangout invitations to their classes.
  • invites for live sessions will be sent through email.

Crew Tomlinson- Working From Home

Crew Tomlinson have had the challenge of working from home for the past two weeks and I have to say as their crew leader I have been so pleased with the hard work and organisation they have shown. The participation in hangouts (both for crew and lessons) have been fantastic, which will really help crew when we are back in school next week to continue with their expeditions!

We have also had two crew birthdays in this period, which crew sang Happy Birthday ‘perfectly’ to Dec last week and Danny today (which I think both students really enjoyed…well maybe not my singing)!

Crew have also spent Wednesday afternoons and some of the morning crew sessions to carry on preparing for their Passage Presentation. I have mentioned to crew the importance of preparing for this and how they need to be organising their time to make sure they are ready for it. Some crew members have worked exceptionally hard on their presentation using their time wisely and already starting to have a fantastic structure. Other crew members need to make sure they are using the time in the best way they can and make sure they are getting on target for their script to be completed.

I really can’t wait for crew to be back in school on Tuesday, it will be great to see you all again!

Again well done for your fantastic efforts over the last 2 weeks at home crew and hope you have a fantastic birthday Danny!

Mrs Burnitt

This Friday Crew continues with their first aid for Duke of Edinburgh. Crew looked at what to do when someone is having a diabetic emergency. Crew also independently researched possible causes and treatments of type 1 and 2 diabetes. Crew showed great maturity in group discussions and are well on their way to be trained first aiders. Great work this week everyone!

Crew Tomlinson – Kahoot time

This morning for Thoughtful Thursday we had a look at the crew dashboard. On Monday we had set a challenge as crew that everyone would aim to be on the praise form twice by Thursday, it was fantastic to see half of crew had achieved this with some crew members earning more! Fantastic effort from Rikki, Max, Harley, Frankie, Harley, Nada, and Molly!!

We also had time to complete a Kahoot on Mode, Mean, Median and Range. Crew all worked really hard trying to answer the questions in the time allocated. We had some fantastic scores. Well Done to Danny who came 1st……great work!

Crew Tomlinson – Reading to Success

Crew Tomlinson have worked exceptionally hard over the last few weeks with lots of great activities. Crew have completed their first star reading test of the year. This is to determine the progress crew members are making with their reading ability. Every Tuesday is also Tranquil Tuesday where crew have the ability to get lost in their books and have that quiet time to read.

Over the last couple of weeks crew have also researched charities and started to present the charity they would like our crew to raise money for. Crew have shown some great maturity and compassion with both the presentations and also discussions we have had.I am really looking forward to the final presentation, for us to choose a charity and start looking at ways to fund raise.

Well done crew, I am really proud of how we have come back to school and the maturity you are showing. Keep up the great work!
