X28 Crew Darling (EWI) What do our HOWLS really mean to us?

During crew time, Crew Darling (EWI) have been looking at what our HOWLS really mean to us! Crew split into three groups, focusing on working hard, getting smart and being kind.. this was then followed with a fantastic presentation to the rest of crew, sharing their thoughts and ideas about HOWLS and how they can be the best version of themselves going forward!

Year 7 Crews’ first solo

On a beautiful Friday afternoon, Crew Darling and Crew AJA spent some time reflecting and engaging with an important question for us at XP – “What is Crew?”

In a solo experience, we ask our students to spend time focusing on themselves and the natural world around them. For our first solo in school, we sat in a circle facing outwards thinking about what crew meant to us. For about half an hour all we could hear was the sounds of nature and of our community as others went about their busy lives. Some of us chose to write or draw our ideas, while others simply thought about the question or took the time to unwind from the stresses and anxieties of the working week.

At the end of the solo students chose to share their ideas about what crew meant to them. We saw beautiful drawings and heard thoughts about compassion, integrity and kindness.

It was a real privilege to spend time together in this way, and a great reminder that what we do at XP is very special.

C28 Admiral getting smart in HUMAN and producing BEAUTIFUL WORK!

Admiral have been producing beautiful work in Human. This week we have started Case Study 2, focusing on religious perspectives of war, pacifism and sanctity of life! Students grappled with the difference between Martin Luther who translated the Bible and Martin Luther King (American civil rights). Look at their beautiful work below..

C25 Academic Crew Getting Smart in Spanish

Yesterday during Crew time the Spanish GCSE groups from Year 10 XP and East got together for support. Students arranged themselves in groups to read each other’s work, critiquing specific content ready for their next product. Those who showed courage read their work aloud, and were listened to with a friendly ear offering kind, specific and helpful critique. When asked what went well, Beth replied “I now know how to make my work better, and achieve Excellence on the rubric’. Ebony also added ‘I had totally missed something on the rubric, but my buddy had spotted it’. Well done C25, can’t wait to do it again!

C28 Crew JEL Micro-adventure

Crew JEL have had an excellent start to life at XP. They have all settled in very well. In the first week students participated in a Micro-adventure. This involved them looking at the environment and the Eco-systems around XP. They looked at the plant and wildlife types and how they might design a garden to attract insects and birdlife to it.

We then had an expert (Dennis), come to visit Crew to speak about garden birds and to help students to build their birdboxes. The students started with a pack of pre-sawn wood and screwed it together to form the birdboxes, which were then painted, and which will be taken home and placed in the garden. Hopefully over the coming years we will be getting updates as to what birds have used it.

Check out the finished Bird Boxes. Fantastic work Crew JEL!

Parent Information – JEL has Crew Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and NEA has crew Monday and Wednesday.

Crew Attenborough Blog 1st May

A change in weather this week so Crew Attenborough Check in was indoors. Was good to see most students there, am hoping for 100% attendance on Tuesday at 12pm. Had some really good 1:1 tutorials with students this week, Friday has been a great day with getting my kids the support they need and getting them on track. Went on fieldwork with Ethan to the Smithsonian, use the link below to enjoy a good trip out without leaving the house.

Particularly proud of Charlie’s engagement with work, he’s smashing it at the minute, keep up the good work Chazza!

Discovering new things about my crew every week, which is nice after 4 years together, can’t believe we’ll soon be in year 11, it doesn’t seem 2 minutes since climbing on the coach to Wales!

A number of students from X24 have been working extremely hard both in lesson and also in the completion of their extended study. They have completed these tasks to a high standard and also made sure that they have been handed in on time.

The students that I would like to give a special mention to are Alfie Lockey (X24 Admiral), Bella Herring (X24 Skipper) and Amber Clark (X24 Skipper) who have all finished the two studies (paper cut and sharpie block design) in class and also their extended study (Artist research).

All three of these students are now well on the way to creating a lovely charcoal study for their developing and exciting art portfolio.
